“60mph to 0 in a dead stop. Passengers unrestrained. If tires can separate from wheel hub with 5-8 hardened steel bolts, imagine what that might do to a neck. Tragic.”

1Old Pro, I missed the part about the tires separating from the wheel hub. Compared to that, the human neck would have snapped like a twig. Death would have been almost instant. So much death. The only solace the families will have is if they accept it was a quick death. So much sorrow all the way around.
Nothing about the driver yet? The family of the driver must be going through hell as well.
The ties could be seen in the ditch as they were recovered after the limo was pulled out. The driver's wife gave an interview at 9am, I missed it.
Look at image 5 of 8 here. two tires pulled out of ditch, totally separated from wheel hub. These are attached with hardened steep lugs, hard to break is an understatement.
40 MPH is about the equivalent of falling off a 10 story building...
People really don’t understand the forces at play at speed, because we travel in cars all the time at far greater speeds, and seat belts and safety features make those higher speeds survivable...
BUt like I said, how many people do you know that have walked away from a 10 story fall? at highway speeds 60MPH for example you are at the equivalent of jumping off an 18 story building....
