“First Man” Raises Disturbing Reminder of Racial Inequality
Real Clear Life ^ | October 11, 2018 | Thelma Adams

Ryan Gosling grimaces and grinds his teeth and suffers mostly silently as heroic Neil Armstrong in Oscar winner Damien Chazelle’s First Man, out Friday. The title is short for first man on the moon for those who weren’t around in 1969 when the dude took “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Or, well, some of it. Fifty years later America doesn’t do such an out-of-this-world job when it comes to racial inclusivity. First Man is a reminder of such inequality.

Nothing like the last month in America shows the cracks in the American melting pot, and the impossibility of a cultural “we.” Most semi-woke individuals sometime during the 141-minute movie will notice the absence of people of color in speaking roles. Not there on the mammoth screen. Not there historically. Not in space.

Don't be culturally appropriating the space program. Just a bunch of white nerds working together to put a man on the moon.

They should have cast Samuel L. Jackson as Werner Von Braun.

Teeny tiny ideas from a teeny tiny writer.
Grow up, little man.
By the writing, it’s obvious that even now that fool wouldn’t be associated with NASA.
Except perhaps, working where folks with his small abilities would work.
In the HR department.

Why do you think it’s called a space race?

Back in the days when the only thing they cared about was getting the very best people for the job. As opposed to now where the top priority is making sure they checked all the correct boxes on the affirmative action checklist and hire a politically correct number from all the “preferred” minority races, enough women, some LQBTQXYZ’s, some disabled people to make the ADA people happy and at least a handful of Muslims for “outreach”.

They couldn’t even be bothered to find an American to play the part of Neil Armstrong so they used a Canadian? That and the suppression of the American flag is enough for me to pass on this film.

I won't be seeing this film.I won't see it in a theater,I won't rent it,I won't buy it,I won't stream it,I won't see it on pay TV or free TV.

The moon landings...ALL OF THEM...were an AMERICAN achievement, not an achievement of "humankind".

Well for some reason, white men are just crazy, brave and intelligent enough to do all these things like sail the seas, invent the bicycle and then motor vehicle and invent and fly an airplane, improve that airplane until it can break the sound barrier, fly into space etc.

Orientals too but it seems their “crazy” is a bit misguided at times.
