New USA Gymnastics chief Mary Bono 'deeply regrets' anti-Nike tweet

Newly named USA Gymnastics head Mary Bono apologized Saturday for a month-old tweet showing her blacking out a Nike logo after the post was slammed by Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles.

“I deeply regret posting the Tweet because I respect everyone’s views and their fundamental right to express them,” said the former Republican congresswoman from California in a statement.

Simone Biles is a pampered rich kid adopted by her grandmother. (Grandma owned 14 large businesses by herself and her husband, second one, worked for the feds.) So she is a lot like Colin in her history and has never learned how to handle tasks that most kids can. But she’s an adult now, and questioning the intelligence of the head of an American IOC section is like biting the hand that feeds you, stupidly. I guess she expects her notoriety to cover her back side.

She needs to stay in her sport and stop using her non-existent pulpit for a sounding board. She’s backing a problem horse while taking shots at the one she needs. She owes Bono an apology. She expects to have her opinion about someone accepted through her disrespecting someone else as a person. Attack the topic, not the person. I guess her color is more important than her expectation of allowing someone to have an opinion about the opinion of another US citizen. That’s not what America is. But it is exactly the problem we have: the attitude that I am okay with disrespecting you as a person when you air an opinion of someone that has harmed people. And Biles is not airing an opinion about the topic. She’s disrespecting the person claiming she lacks intelligence. That is not an opinion, it is an insult.

I was disappointed to read Simone Biles comments in this situation but you are way off base with your criticism of her and how she was brought up. Reading her story it sounds like she was adopted and brought up by very special people. Who raised her to love God and it sounds like Simone is a true Christian. She wouldn’t be the first Christian to be ignorant concerning this type of situation. But there’s no way she did not work her butt off to achieve the things she’s achieved and she probably also sacrificed many things that so called spoiled pampered kids would never give up.

She was adopted by her grandmother, well off, and her second husband. She was trained at high expense by some professional gymnast trainers, and competed all over the country before she was 10. At no time in my entry did I question her gymnastics. She was well trained and her adopted grandmother paid for it.

As for being a Christian, when did insulting the intelligence of a person become the standard for the run of the mill Christian? If you go into the article, and read that she did not discuss the differences in the apparent opposite thoughts and understandings of Ms. Bono. She just flat insinuated she wasn’t needed in the position because she wasn’t smart enough.

*mouth drop*

don’t worry, it’s not like we needed a smarter usa gymnastics president or any sponsors or anything https://twitter.com/MaryBonoUSA/status/1038189174560452609

That sound like a good Christian to you? I guess insinuating someone is unintelligent or maybe dull witted is not in the 10 commandments. However both words are listed as antonyms of smarter. It might fall into “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” But to be honest, she may not be able to handle the position. But Biles doesn’t know that and can’t comment on it in a proper way without using a particular race related situation to insult someone. And that’s what it comes down to.

Frankly, at this point, I don’t care what she accomplished at the games. She appears with this type of action to not be representing the entire country if she wishes to insult them over a short sided topic that has been mishandle for many years. Especially if she does not attempt to improve the issue but further aggravate it. If she wants to do some good, don’t try to attack someone for something that was their choice and did not harm anyone without talking to them and finding out what they had in mind. And she is an adult now and responsible for her actions.

In this case Biles was not part of remedy, she was part of the problem. And she is going to incite others to act without accomplishing anything by her actions. How many half grown kids read that and are reacting negatively about Ms Bono when all she did was express her opinion about a company she felt was obstructive to the problem? It just gets worse and no one is trying to accomplish an improvement as both sides are wrong until they get to the table.

The last time they did it at the right level was in the sixties and the first major step in correcting the problem was created with the Civil Rights Act. Maybe before she starts discussing intelligence, she might want to read that document. Then maybe she should talk to her pastor about insulting people. Obviously she hasn’t done the second one as there has been no retraction. So I don’t respect her. But it has nothing to do with her color unless she wants to make it that way. My three grand daughters are black. I don’t want them to react to someone that is making problems the wrong way. And it ends up being another problem their parents and we will have to discuss to protect them from the misinterpretation of an uneducated fool like Biles. Fools rush in..... I get very perturbed when people endanger children with their health and well being. Colin did it. And with this so has she.

Do I think there isn’t a racial problem in the US? Course not. Can I change it? Only if someone puts it on the ballot and after I help vote it in it is enforced.

But no one wants to change the status quo. A perfect example is BLM. If black lives are important, and they are, then why are more blacks shot to death by blacks than anyone other race in the US?

Mathew 7 in the King James Version say: “

“Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”

It’s supposed to be a two way street. And you can’t walk on the broken center line.

well, I wonder if she was chased out or if she said to herself, “Screw this, I am not going to be told how to think. I quit.”

I am still waiting for the WORLD WIDE reaction when a bunch of he/she?? girly’boys’?? show up for Olympic tryouts.

Especially since we were a major part in stripping E Germany and Russia and China of medals because of ‘low girly’ readings on some of their athletes.

Good time for popcorn shares

Wow. That’s a lot of writing to essentially agree with me. I said I disagree with what she said. My problem with your comment was that you called her a Pampered Rich kid, the implication being that she got where she is because of money and not working for it. And that’s very wrong.

Sorry it got long. But I just wanted to display for you, and other readers, what was done and why it was wrong. This one will be a little long to because even though I identified some of it, I didn’t get all of it to save space. It would take a book.

Money does talk in this country and she was given a lot of it. She is one of those athletes that was trained by established coaches and was funded through many different sources to get where they are making the megabucks they do. The only bill she had was working out on her trade.

She had a rich grand mother/adopted parent that footed the bill for her training starting at Bannon’s Gymnastix with coach Aimee Boorman at age 8. Bannon Gymnastixs is located in Houston Texas. A long way from Ohio where she was born and where her grand mother oversaw her businesses.

She followed Boorman From Bannon to a few facilities until she became the executive director of Evo Athletics in Sarasota, Florida, that is now one of the training facilities used by the U.S. women’s national team. I’d say that qualifies Biles as being pampered with an opportunity to go where few have had even a remote chance of going.

And all those moves cost a lot of money. Money a vast majority of the populous does not even come close to having and keeps thousands of possible athletes from using to attain the riches and notoriety they get.

Biles now trains in her own facility in Spring, Texas, built for her by her parents and it opened to the public for training when she was 16 years old. Did you own a multi million dollar facility before you could drive a car? I sure didn’t.

Yes, she was afforded an entire life based upon her adopted parents and sponsors money. She used 32 hour weeks to train and was home schooled so it wouldn’t get in the way of her training. More expense.

She owes her an apology and needs to go back to the gym her parents built for her and rake in the profits from her name. One she didn’t pay for.
