Illegal immigration by parents traveling with children reportedly hit an all-time high in September as thousands of families continued to pour across the southwest border, capping a record-setting year for family migration.
A total of 16,658 people traveling in family units were arrested by the Border Patrol at the southwest border in September, according to unpublished Customs and Border Protection (CBP) figures obtained by The Washington Post.
That was the highest single-month total on record and an 80 percent increase over July’s total. The September figures follow a record-setting August, which saw 12,774 people in family units arrested at the border, the highest ever total for that month. For all of fiscal year 2018, more than 107,000 people in family units members were arrested, shattering the previous high of 77,857 set in 2016.
The summer deluge of family migration has come in the three months since President Donald Trump ended family separations at the southwest border. Over that period, large groups of families, mostly from Central America, have crossed the border or arrived at ports of entry to petition for asylum.
The Trump administration has attributed the surge to loopholes in immigration law that prevent the government from holding adults and their children in detention together while their cases are heard in immigration court. Administration officials say the restrictions encourage parents to bring children across the border because they know they will be released for the duration of their immigration proceedings, which can take years.
The administration in April tried to create a deterrent to family migration through a “zero tolerance” policy, in which all adults crossing the border with children in tow were prosecuted for unlawful entry. The policy led to the separation of about 2,500 children from their parents, sparking outrage among immigration activists and civil rights groups.
Trump ended the practice in June amid public outcry, while a court order forced the administration to reunify most of the families that had been separated during the zero-tolerance period. Today, most illegal immigrant families caught at the border are released pending a court date unless there are aggravating circumstances such as suspected child abuse or drug smuggling.
Reports of record-setting family migration come as a caravan of about 2,000 migrants is making its way northward from Honduras, with the aim of reaching the U.S. border. It is the second such procession this year, after a similar group marched from Central America all the way to U.S. ports of entry in April.
The prospect of another highly publicized caravan reaching the U.S. border has again drawn Trump’s ire. He threatened Tuesday to cut foreign aid to the governments of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador if they did not act to stop the outflow of migrants.
Meanwhile, White House officials are reportedly considering new border policies to deal with the wave of family migration. Options under consideration include new rules making it harder for asylum-seekers to gain admission at ports of entry and so-called “binary choice” — where parents choose between staying with their kids in long-term detention or allowing them to be assigned to a government-run shelter until a suitable sponsor can take custody.

Amen.
Heh. I posted my comment about nobody with belongings, and then saw the above thread! Cash handed out to Hundorous caravan.
I despise this sh*t.
Law? LMFAO.
There is no law anymore.
> Dont blame Trump. Congress wont fund the wall. <
On the other hand, Trump could have moved federal troops to the border the day after he was inaugurated. As commander-in-chief, he’s got great leeway there.
So I’m not letting Trump off the hook here.
Yeah, just saw that one after I posted mine.
Your guesstimate could very well be.
I hear you. But he is the CEO. It’s the CEO’s job to bring in the right people to get the job done. He did threaten to fire the head of CBP several months back if this didn’t get under control.
We are past due for Claymores and Warthogs.
A wall would stop all this.
Iow, they know the likelihood of them ever going back to Old Mex is close to nil. Getting across before the wall is built. Until then, the President needs to send the National Guard down there in full strength to repel the invasion and send the invaders home.
There’s probably 11 million in California alone. Most of California seems like a third world ghetto. Or Barrio I guess.
Agree on sending increased man power.
Most of the world’s countries use their military to control and safeguard their borders.
Why can’t America?
I think you are right. We certainly had 11 million illegals when Chimpy Bush was President, maybe even when his deep state daddy was president.
Take a few active army divisions from Germany and Korea and station them on the southern border.
The Real Americans arrive to take over.
Should we hand the nuclear codes to the guy in the blue shirt, or the kid with the punk hairdo?
After all, Pelosi says we have no right to stop them.

Dont blame Trump.
Congress wont fund the wall.
Courts wont let him crack down or actually deport anybody.
>
Forgot: Congress won’t do SPIT to reign in the rogue courts/judges
Lastly, sorry, but I’m not seeing Donald push this too hard either. No calls to remove the rogues, no “let them enforce their decision” speeches, no calls to ICE/DOJ to *CRACK DOWN* and arrest/prosecute/deport anyway (hell, he allowed DACA to cont...so much for THAT campaign promise, but keeps ethanol welfare *SMH*)
This is a great opportunity.
All Republican candidates need to say to their Rat opponents: do you agree with this? They can storm the gates at will?
And let everyone in the U.S. see who the Democrat party is actually loyal to.
Hint: it isn’t the Americans.
You ain’t seen nothing yet.
Wait until the October and first week of November come in.
I wonder how many of those ‘families’ are closer than a random man paired with a random woman and a rented or borrowed child.
We do. We use the Navy and Coast Guard. But, for some odd reason we don’t use them on land borders.
We are past due for Claymores and Warthogs.
