I first noticed the Mexican-American construction job site portajohnny graffiti wars in the early 90’s here in NC.

A group of about 20 Mexican construction workers walked into a NC Burger King where I had stopped for a snack. They milled around—yammering—while pointing at the huge menu sign, as though it was written in Chinese. I'm quite certain they were brand-new to the country—in 1999.

Edit: They could have arrived from Miami, where I lived for 45 years. Now I live in central Florida, where it’s actually WORSE!
