So much for 'refuge.' Caravan army turns up its nose at Mexico's generous offer of asylum

Migrants traveling in a caravan through southern Mexico have rejected a proposal by President Enrique Pena Nieto that they apply for refugee status in the country and obtain benefits.

Coordinators of the caravan read out the president’s plan called “You are at home.” Migrants shouted “Gracias!” but “No, we’re heading north!”

Activist Irineo Mujica of the Pueblo sin Fronteras group is supporting the migrants in the caravan. He told the group that 80 percent of those who apply for protective status would be rejected and deported.

*snip*

What's indisputable here is that weak as it is, and as concerned about its own security as it is, Mexico has issued a very, very generous offer to the migrants that they've turned up their noses at.

Which tells us one thing: That the migrant caravan isn't comprised of the sweet little daisies seeking asylum from violence that the press, the NGOs and the Catholic Church are portraying, but a group of hardcore pick-and-choose activists who will settle for nothing less than U.S. benefit packages, borders and U.S. rule of law, be damned. They want what they want, they want it for free and they want it on their own terms. They're political activists hellbent on teaching Trump a lesson and helping themselves to the U.S. taxpayer-paid goodies, not people fleeing violence and grateful for whatever they can get, the way real refugees, such as the fleeing Venezuelans, are. These mostly military-aged young men, often with criminal records, have a message to send, and they're happy to act as pawns for their NGO masters.

Good point about how them rejecting Mexico’s offer strengthens the U.S. case that these are not people seeking legitimate asylum.

and cannot obtain protection in that country, due to past persecution or a well-founded fear of being persecuted in the future “on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.”

So... I am a refugee in Los Angeles with the right to asylum?

Let’s start with what we agreed on.

Not one of the individuals within this quote caravan“ should ever step foot on American soil.

They should never be allowed to cross the Mexican border. They should never received one dine in a good from the American people. They should be informed that they must engage in the same application process as those people were legitimately trying to immigrate to the United States.

Now, on the area where I think we disagree. There are definitely some hardened activists within this group of people… Hard to say how many. But to believe that every single person in this group of humanity headed our way will “sneak into your house at night and rape your wife and daughter and slit your throat…” Is simply ridiculous And the worst of hyperbole ......and it does not help the conservative cause.

You have passionate feelings concerning this subject and this event… They bring out in anger in you that is palatable. I don’t know you so I can’t even begin to surmise how you’ve been touched by illegal immigration…

I have found over the years that life is too short to “wish harm“ on anybody. ...of course that’s different than someone getting up in your face and daring you to take action.…

But I do think our basic humanity suffers when we assess the lives of people around us through ONLY our own prism of life....

I noticed on your personal page… That you have proudly displayed a picture of former President Bush. The word “compassionate conservatism” comes to mind.

Perhaps it would be good to apply that here?

Best to you fellow FReeper.

So the people who are not gang members or criminals break off into smaller groups for safety and are picked up by police and sent back home while the hard core criminals and MS 13 gang members in the main group are ushered through and put on buses to help them make to America as quickly as possible

While many of us would love to blow them to smithereens; howabout we spray them with knockout gas then truck them or fly them in cargo planes to where the horde started then leave them laying there until they wake up. Re-spray the knockout gas as needed. Make sure they know this was a one time pass. Next time they will wake up in Mexican prisons. America will pay for 2 slices of dry bread and 1 slice of the cheapest bologna per day to keep them alive for the year they spend in said prisons. All future hordes will go to prison in Mexico through a deal worked out in advance.

This insanity must stop.

I don’t wish harm on any people but I do get angered seeing people taking advantage of our country whether it be people trying to get in the country illegally, or liberals trying to make the US a third world country. I’m against violence as a solution as well, so we agree on that. I do feel we have borders for a reason and immigration laws do need to be changed. Until then we need to enforce laws on the books.

As far as GWB, I supported him back then, but realize he was a RINO. I added the Trump pics around him so show a contrast. Trump is everything I was hoping Bush would have been.

“These caravan illegal invaders already have disgraceful attitudes of entitlement.“

I’d say much of the world has disgraceful attitudes of entitlement from our government (our wallets), be it foreign aid, disaster relief, military protection, volunteer workers or low tariffs.

Because of the optics of stopping the caravan and how it affects politics, there is only one solution if the caravan makes it to our border.

We have to stop them cold just on the other side of the border and care for them in a tent city (on the other side of the border) until they decide accept Mexico's (or someone else's) offer of hospitality.

During the time they are in the tent city, the criminal element and gang members within the mob need to be sorted out and sent back to their countries of origin.

Once the rest realize they are not getting into the U.S., they will give up and either accept Mexican hospitality or just go home.

From the perspective of the US they are not illegal anything - yet. But people who claim to be speaking for them say this large force of people are intent upon entering the US, and it is evident from all that has transpired they are not asylum seekers. Indeed, they have refused opportunities to make application to both Mexican and US authorities. Which doesn’t leave many options as to how their intent might be properly characterized.
