The radio business seems to be in a transition right now.

As the news director of a big AM station once told me "we lose ten listeners a day through the obituary column."

Well, with people passing on, and new listeners not tuning in, how do radio stations survive? Their main revenue source is selling commercial time. If audience declines, income goes down.

Maybe radio will survive by going online and the subscription model.

But then again, I can think of certain hosts I listen to know, for free on AM, that I would never pay to hear in another format.
