We all have free will. We can wisely cut down useless trees and plant new ones or just burn every tree in the Amazon rainforest for no good reason. We can live where we choose and how we choose and collectively that makes mankind an influence on the planet no matter what we do as individuals. It's best to acknowledge the effects of our own actions and collective actions and acknowledge them honestly.

We should not beleive stories from the left the mankind and capitalism is a scourge. Nor should we simply ignore the environment by pretending God is in charge and will fix any problems we create. Both of those are extreme views. The truth is in the middle, we must be conscious of what we do, conservative, and not wasteful.

“Nor should we simply ignore the environment by pretending God is in charge and will fix any problems we create.”

That is not any true Christian’s perspective. We are instructed to be stewards of God’s creation. Look at the Amish for an example of this.
