More than 80 Ocean County residents were exposed to the measles at a private event in New York as the number of cases continues to widen, New Jersey health officials said.
Most of those exposed live in Lakewood, according to Dawn Thomas, a spokeswoman for the state health department.
The Ocean County health department didnt mention where or when the event took place, but said Friday 86 people might have been infected. There were already 18 confirmed and six suspected cases of measles in Ocean County. People who might have been exposed to the highly contagious diseases are being contacted by health officials.

I guess the meme that some must be sacrificed for the greater good is strong among those who want everyone to get every vaccination out there....
if illegals are stopped and quarantined and required to get their shots to travel, problem solved.
You can leave your car unlocked if it is safe within your garage.

Measles is highly contagious as you are exposed, and can contaminate others, even before you exhibit illness symptoms.

Might explain a bit more, but not much.
Speaking of patients zero, check out the bit on outbreaks, the info on previous years....

Someone needs to develop a vaccine that raises the IQ of parents who don’t take care of their kids.
Shouldn’t take too much effort to double their IQ up to 100.
My allergist/immunologist told me the exact same thing.
They do not take with everyone and for many people they offer only partial immunity.
And what field is your MD in?
Injecting vitamin c in large doses? Apparently you want endocarditis to make your kidney stones more interesting. Wow
You are purposefully snarky.....as most anti valets are
And if you are exposed to the measles, your doc might be able to hit your immune system with something, but chances are, he or she will NOT suggest the proven way of vitamins to avoid or get a lesser case of the measles, which one should do even if he has something else to use. Oral vitamin c, maybe start with 500 mg 2-3x a day and see how your bowels go. Dose should be just short of diarrhea if you are going oral. Easier, though, to go to an integrative MD and get an infusion with more vitamin c, which is actually MORE TOLERABLE to get a higher dose in, than oral.
Vitamin A should not be supplemented pretty much ever, with some rare exceptions - measles is one. Use a doctors recommendation for the dose, but if he says its not necessary, he would be avoiding a proven way to make sure your case is not one with the worst outcomes.
I am not a doctor, but I would like to play one on tv. Maybe in a telenovella.
See the post I just wrote.
Antivaxxers would be less of a menace if we’d stop importing infectious people and diseases.
At least you are not advocating self injecting. That is a recipe for disaster
I did not give anyone medical advice
It is true that vaccines are not 100%. I never said they were
Advising people to inject themselves with anything is not only fool hardy it is giving medical advice
You are giving medical advice
Stop it. Even if you had an MD no one here is your patient
This is kind of a big deal.
We don’t really know how many older adults who were vaccinated are now susceptible to measles. We don’t even REALLY know that natural infection in childhood confers lifelong immunity (although it probably does).
In the prevaccine era, parents of young children who had had measles as children themselves were constantly re-exposed (boosted) as their own children and eventually grandchildren got measles. This DEFINITELY prevented clinical measles in adults.
Now, since children don’t get measles any more, their parents never get re-exposed, so after a booster at age 11-12, most people’s immunity starts to wane.
I caught measles when I was 28 and was out of work for three months. There is significant mortality in adults who get measles.
Hopefully the NJ event is limited in scope.
