If rejected by the Senate then the bill goes to Reconciliation- a groupof Senators and Representatives meet and work out a compromise. Not sure if the fruits of reconciliation are subject to cloture vote.

Also, that’s ‘normal’ behavior, who can know what this Senate will do.

Look, I can’t argue with that.

Our Senators are a worthless bunch. We all know that.

No, Bills have to be re-introduced at the beginning of each session of Congress (after elections and new representatives take office.)

I’m not sure why they can’t use budget reconciliation to authorize funding the wall with only 50 senate votes.

Under the Byrd rule they can’t have any policy changes in such a bill, but arguably there is none: (1) the Secure Fence Act authorized 600 miles of fencing with a lot of discretion given to the manner of fencing (Senator Hutchinson got an amendment to allow a virtual fence instead if DHS so decides) so Trump could at least get a start replacing chain link fence with the steel slats or (2) the President has inherent power to defend the border and putting barriers on the border by the President should not be deemed a policy change with respect to Congress.

Of course, getting 50 Republican votes will be difficult because some senators are wholly owned by globalist bankers and the cheap labor lobby.

Twelve Dem presidential debates are scheduled for 2019. If we wait, the issue will become even more political.

Seventy-five percent of the govt is funded and won’t be affected by the shutdown. The IRS will be, interior, bunch of alphabet agencies. People won’t care if the DMV is closed for the holidays.

Those that vote against the bill need to be painted as
1. making a choice to irresponsibly spend over $300Billion a Year on processing illegals/paying their ‘sponsors’, over spending a one-time $5Billion on border security that would greatly reduce that $300Billion a Year tab.
2. making a choice to continue to subject Messico to waves of migrants they cannot support and do not want
3. making a choice to support the lucrative but largely unregulated or policed human trafficking industry masked as anything from ‘coyotes’ to ‘immigrant assistance’ NGOs
4. making a choice to thumb their nose at millions who have been trying legally to immigrate to the US by allowing others to push in front

Representatives to the reconciliation committee will be appointed by this House.

If Nancy wants the media to be able to portray her as not shutting the gov down she can’t hold out for the new Congress IMHO. The media can perform wonders, but not miracles.

The RATS are sure a freak show, aren’t they?
Well, hell... half of them haven’t even figured out what sex they are yet, so I guess that’s no real surprise.

That’s the key. Get the votes on record. Those voting against the Wall (national security) can be considered anti-American.

Just struck me...

This year we’d have in a reconciliation committee a House that wants a wall and a Senate that doesn’t, next year we’d have the opposite.
Weird.

Schumer doesn’t need to filibuster.

There aren’t 20 votes in the Senate for a wall.

It doesn’t matter. McConnell doesn’t have 51 votes.
