Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on responsible treatment of animals, which outlaws all forms of cruelty to animals and establishes rules of pet ownership, according to documents uploaded to the official online database of Russian legislative information on Thursday.
The law was introduced to the lower chamber of the Russian parliament, the State Duma, in 2010 and took eight years to be passed. The law contains the basic principles of pet ownership, based on responsible, ethical and humane treatment of animals.....

We had four roosters in our hen-house. Three had to go. I shot the first one, shot the second one, and a few days later, shot the third one. Each time I grabbed the body by the ankles and threw them in a protected “organic trash” area.
The day after I shot the third one, I was out feeding the hens and the one rooster, and I saw the one I had just shot running around with the other chickens. Obviously I had accidentally shot a matching hen. I went out to the trash area and the body was gone. Then I saw the blood on the rooster.
We named him Lazarus and, no, I’m not shooting him again.

It's certainly not cruel to eat them, so long as they're dead when you do it. As to slaughter, that depends on how it's carried out.

No, just as there is a difference btwn slowly torturing a person to death who has committed a capital offense versus a relatively quick execution.
Of course, beyond this is the Biblical difference btwn man and animals, and eternity based upon choice, and with nature being to serve man, and which man is to be a good steward of as Scripture shows. If you reject that authority, you might go all the way and marry man and animals. And or engage in cannibalism as a practice.
