Well, FWIW, I read it differently.

And if they can be out the door, they should be out the door. Non-essential means non-essential.

Interesting that Pelosi planned on being out of the country when the 30 days had gone by...

Let them collect unemployment the same as everyone else.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

No - can’t do it.

The Trump Administration has told California and seven other states that they cannot offer unemployment benefits to federal workers who aren’t getting a paycheck. Gov. Gavin Newsom last week encouraged thousands of California workers furloughed due to the federal government shutdown to apply for unemployment insurance, vowing that “we’ll cover you – we have your back.” But Wednesday, the California Employment Development Department was among those sent a memo from the Department of Labor which states that federal employees who are working without pay “are not unemployed and are, therefore, not eligible for UCFE” (Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees).

Correction required: The $5b Trump has requested for the wall will not pay for the entire wall, but will only get the wall started. It is estimated it will cost about $80b to complete the wall from the Gulf Coast to the Pacific Ocean.

However much it costs, BUILD THE WALL, NOW!

Wonder if selective layoffs are possible. Review their records, note the better workers if possible. Keep only them.

I’d rather see this drawn out - it will cause many employees to leave.

What???? They know they will be paid no matter how long they are furloughed. This is welfare on steroids!

Then there is unemployment benefits

By filing, one admits to being unemployed. Unemployed means no longer employed

Unemployed means back salary is no longer due

To: right way right

Early retirement offers though, maybe.”””

Trump can demand a 20 or 25% cutback in every single department.

“federal employees who are working without pay”

I was talking about those who were not working and still expect to collect back pay. I was not talking about those who are working without pay. They should get back pay.

“I call BS on this. I’ll do an internet search but I believe the President has signed legislation guaranteeing back pay.”

NOPE! Only those WORKING without pay. NOT furloughed employees.

“The only problem I have with those statistics is that a relatively minute percentage of Federal employees donate to political campaigns and they are not typical of the rest. “

“Many are apolitical just like the general population”

If that were the case, then the donations would be evenly split.

No, the reason why we’ve had this massive conspiracy of high treason is because D.C. is an echo chamber of radical leftists—>Hillary voters.

I don’t know who these employees are. Some may be non-essential, and some may be essential.

I do wish to see the fed gov reduced in size.

This seems like a great start, but when the full facts are know, it may be problematic to get rid of all of them.

That’s a whole lot of salary and benefit money right there.

I thought that what he signed applied to employees who were working without being paid. Those who are not working and not being paid were not included.

Funny how they’re all about back-pay when it doesn’t involve DoD. When the sequestration furloughs in the summer of 2013 hit (which no news agency ever talks about, to them it never happened), they were more than happy for DoD employees to lose a month’s pay and tell people to suck it up, buttercup. Since DoD is funded this time around, all of a sudden it’s a big sob story, of course they’re getting back-pay, banks are giving free loans, let’s go on the TV every night and have a good cry for them. The game is a lot different when it’s DoD taking the hit, which is usually what happens.

That is correct. The possibility of a RIF does not apply across the board, only as you say to those not working at all.
