McConnell: The President Stepped Up with Bold Plan to Re-Open Government, Fund Border Security

‘Everyone has made their point—now it’s time to make a law. I intend to move to this legislation this week. With bipartisan cooperation, the Senate can send a bill to the House quickly so that they can take action as well. The situation for furloughed employees isn’t getting any brighter and the crisis at the border isn’t improved by show votes. But the President’s plan is a path toward addressing both issues quickly.’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made the following statement regarding the President’s plan to re-open the closed portions of the federal government, fund border security and address additional immigration measures:

“I commend the President for his leadership in proposing this bold solution to reopen the government, secure the border, and take bipartisan steps toward addressing current immigration issues.

“Compromise in divided government means that everyone can’t get everything they want every time. The President’s proposal reflects that. It strikes a fair compromise by incorporating priorities from both sides of the aisle.

“This bill takes a bipartisan approach to re-opening the closed portions of the federal government. It pairs the border security investment that our nation needs with additional immigration measures that both Democrat and Republican members of Congress believe are necessary. Unlike the bills that have come from the House over the past few weeks, this proposal could actually resolve this impasse. It has the full support of the President and could be signed into law to quickly reopen the government.

“Everyone has made their point—now it’s time to make a law. I intend to move to this legislation this week. With bipartisan cooperation, the Senate can send a bill to the House quickly so that they can take action as well. The situation for furloughed employees isn’t getting any brighter and the crisis at the border isn’t improved by show votes. But the President’s plan is a path toward addressing both issues quickly.”

In order to start a RIF they have to mail letters to those who might be affected and give them a 60 day clock first. Then the 30 day clock starts.

During Trump’s minispeech today, I channel surfed to see who was covering it. Only FoxNews and Fox network were. The ‘Big 3’ didn’t. They were all showing sports games. I didn’t check any other Cable shows.

With McConnel going for 50 vote majority rules/nuclear option Trumps wall would have passed the Senate.

He didn’t have Flake and Corker and another Senator were absent. McConnell didn’t have the votes.

I am sorry but I don’t buy that one either. McCain and a number of other Republican senators would have prevented Mitch from changing the rules of he tried over the last two years.

Again trying to blame the leadership is ridiculous. I am impressed Trump had gotten as much as he has gotten through.

A lot of them dropped out. Many point to that as being why Dems took house. I look to the story being- Pelosi et al make fools of themselves over next two years, with assistance from our anti wimp president.many pro Americans win republican House seats in 2020. Trump moves U.S. agenda way ahead.

Absolutely agree with you 100%!

I never said that’s what they should do. Read a little bit further in my post where I said: “Now of course the idea of legal vs illegal immigrants is trumped by swamp bought and paid for political correctness.”

What I meant by that is political correctness bought and paid for by the swamp means to them illegal is OK. That’s why Pelosi is preaching the moral correctness of keeping borders open. She knows it’s illegal. AOC knows it’s illegal. That’s why they invoke their moral clause. Of course their idea of what’s morally correct and ours are direct opposites. But they see our side as crude, cruel and inferior.

So no, I never said that’s what they should do.

Both of my grandparents homesteaded on some of that land you are talking about. One French, one German. They both “Amercanized” the pronunciation of their last names to fit in with the new land.

Our Mexican buddies want to bring their culture with them, the one they are running away from. It’s like some woman leaving her husband, but packs him along in the car anyway.
