You mean to tell me that PDJT will cause the Republicans to exploit the obvious deficiencies of AOC in their campaigns coming up?

These are the wet noodles who would sooner sell the country down the river than be labeled a ‘racist’ or ‘sexist’.

These are the same spineless weasels who stood by while a soft coup was (and still is) going on against a duly elected President.

One thing is for sure - we’ll find out in due time.

See my #79 for an explanation on why it’s a good deal for ANY municipality.

$2.5bil in salaries over 30 years if $750 billion of new income to the district.

It’s a friggin’ no brainer, even if it offends some sensibilities.

Ignorant stupidity on full display in Macy’s window.

Patting herself on the back for sh!t-canning 25,000 jobs in the dying state of NY. Will her constituents really thank her or is she already beyond caring what the little people think, want, or need?

AND, all the idiot democrats refusing to concede that if you have to bribe a company with tax breaks up the wazoo to even set up shop in NY, then maybe taxes are too damn high and all NY companies should get a tax break to stay in NY and keep more residents employed, which, would, ya know, increase tax revenue.

“The GOP simply cannot continue to keep turning a blind eye to this if it wants to remain competitive in elections. Ive seen too many friends and coworkers vote Democrat despite their reservations simply because the GOP has a habit of giving these corporations whatever they want.”

Silly. It was a commie borough in NYC that was offering to give Amazon whatever it wanted.

She is like a high school student who organized a riot to get an otherwise innocent and competent HS principal fired because he wanted to raise educational standards and that meant more homework.

In other words, she cut off her nose to spite her face.

Instead of driving Amazon away, she might have extracted some really great concessions for the neighborhood, the City, and the State if she had tried diplomacy.

We can all chalk this up to "socialism in action."

I’ve lived long enough to remember when they used to put the mentally ill in mental institutions.

“You’ve cited all the usual rationales for such corporate welfare. The same points are used to excuse bidding wars of subsidies for boondoggles everywhere. For instance, they’ve been used to justify heavy subsidies for just about every major-league stadium, and every Olympics games. They were used to justify bailouts for the auto industry, and are still being used to justify all sorts of subsidies for “green energy”, electric cars, etc.”

You’re comparing apples and Studebakers. Olympic stadiums/games impact for a few years, at most. Sports teams impact the local economy for many, many years but not at the level of 25,000 jobs of any kind, much less 25,000 jobs that pay +$100k per year. Every year. $750 billion over 30 years.

That’s TRANSFORMATIVE for any city, in any situation.

If the city wants to give away money to help businesses grow here, it could provide tax and regulatory relief to the many mom-and-pop businesses that try to make a go of it. While that would still be corporate welfare, at least it would be to more needy businesses.

A lot of little things are just as good, and sometimes better, than one big thing.

Don’t look at what Donald causes the elephant hides to do. Look at what Donald does himself.

And here’s the weirdest thing. She isn’t even in a position to negotiate anything for New York in this deal anyhow, unless Congress was, which the Senate would nix. She did all she could do which was to drum up trouble.

Brava!

All those thousands of wage slaves that Amazon was going to hire have been freed from a lifetime of Pro-Trumpist prosperity.

They can now be shipped out to the collectivist rice paddies, to labor in Socialist bliss...

Just, wow! However, I'm probably guilty of Deviationism. I'll turn myself in for self-criticism.

I’m not looking at anything past this year, frankly (politically speaking).

Just responding to what the other poster assumes the Republicans at large will do as a result of what President Trump may or may not do.

Donald looks to be going to be bigger and bolder than the rest of the GOP, which will reluctantly straggle along.

You’re right about one big thing — A.O.C. is probably stupid to oppose corporate welfare that flows into her district. That’s probably going to hurt her at the polls.

However, having cities and regions compete with each other, to offer the biggest bag of boodle to corporations; is not the way to develop a healthy economy. It’s corporate welfare — which, inevitably fosters crony capitalism. It hurts everyone, except those on the receiving end of the welfare.

Amazon needs a headquarters. They’re going to build it somewhere — with or without bribes and corporate welfare. The jobs will still be created (wherever the HQ is built).

Totally agree but with a corrupt two-party system what can we realistically do/ 3rd parties go nowhere.
