I can imagine Tina Turner singing a song like this one, maybe 40 years ago. Just a few lyric changes. She lived the life too, unfortunately.

When she finally got away, it was at a gas station, with nothing in her pocket. That is hard. There are people right this second in this same situation all over. Bruised, penniless, feeling they have nowhere to go. Worse, maybe with little kids too.
