Ex-FISA court chief defends DOJ, FBI for handling of Carter Page surveillance applications
Washington Examiner ^ | 2/17/19 | Daniel Chaitin

U.S. District Judge John Bates, who once led the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, defended the Justice Department and embattled intelligence community for how it handled the application process to obtain warrants to spy on onetime Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

Bates, who was placed on the FISA court by Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts and was its presiding judge from 2009 to 2013, said he has seen no evidence lending credibility to Republican concerns that officials misled the court in obtaining a 2016 FISA warrant and three renewals.

"I will note and note with some force that I have seen nothing that indicates that the court was misled, that the Department of Justice or the intelligence community made misrepresentations to the court," Bates told Lawfare podcast co-hosts David Kris and Nates Jones, the founders of the Culper Partners consulting firm. "And not only have I seen nothing that would indicate that, I have heard nothing that persuasively makes that case."

Bates is an interested party since HE played a large role in shaping the FISC (as presiding judge for 4 recent years).

It means little to nothing that he wishes to defend his close colleagues who are still on that court.

It would only be noteworthy if he DID take issue with how they are conducting themselves.

Idiocy abounds in govt. and most of govt protects it’s wrong doers. That’s why the entire swamp must be drained.

Well, it never would have happened. Plus, this judge is another one of Bush’s wonderful appointees.

So, he’s saying that the Court was complicit in running the coup.

Traitor Roberts included.

“One person’s opinion.”

That is not his opinion, it is a knowing lie.

“U.S. District Judge John Bates, who once led the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court ... said he has seen no evidence lending credibility to Republican concerns that officials misled the court in obtaining a 2016 FISA warrant and three renewals.”

Which means he’s part of the problem we’re facing with the growing drift into a police state.

If what he says is taken at face value, then there’s a HUGE PROBLEM with the FISA Court system, since it, I guess, allows any administration to spy on their political opponents by simply making up a story and going to the FISA judges with it.

Is that he’s really supporting - something that isn’t even tolerated in the Third World?

When will they ever come clean?

Notably there is NO mention of the “2 hops” rule for FISA warrants.

The FISA wasn’t just to spy on Trump’s campaign via Carter Page.......but with “the 2 hops rule” the Obama spies could spy on virtually the entire Trump campaign staff.

SOURCE-—REDDIT.COM Under FISA law, when the government obtains a warrant on an individual, they are also allowed to spy on anyone that person contacts, as well as anyone the contacted person contacts, as well as anyone that person contacted, going back FIVE YEARS!

IOW, the Obama admin got a FISA warrant on Carter Page, but since Page would have been in contact with at least 1 member of the Trump campaign, and that member or one of their contacts probably was in contact with virtually anyone even remotely connected to the campaign........the FISA warrant made it “legal” for Obama and his cronies to spy on anyone even remotely connected to Trump or the campaign and look at ANY of their communications over the last FIVE YEARS!

This should be a major focus of news stories......right now one of the misleading talking points from the Deep State is that this FISA was innocently looking at Page “only.”

Fisa Court was created in the aftermath of the Church Commission. It was designed to strengthen oversight of the FBI after their abuse is of the 1960s and 70s. Instead they made it into a playground where they can hide all of their crimes Under The Heading of National Security.

THIS IS ROLLING OUT TO BE THE MOST HEINOUS DEMOCRAT COVERUP EVER CONCEIVED
<><> weaponizing and politicizing the US intel apparat (setup to protect Americans' safety and security----NOT a campaign spy tool)
<><> crimes perpetrated by Obama govt employees under color of law to affect the outcome of an election---a heinous Third World MO;
<><> investigations stonewalled by the refusal of the criminal Obama FBI and DOJ to produce documents and provide access to witnesses.

I’ve been wondering why some of the FISA judges haven’t come out of hiding and reacted to the abuse of the FISA system. I have concluded that none of them have because they supported and approved of the abuse, and were probably well aware of the abuse at that time. All these kind of judges are a big part of the problem.

Corrupt just doesn't adequately describe these Deep State bums.....more like born-criminals and con artists.

Two important products of Congressional investigations:
<><>the 18 Jan 2017 memo declassified by Pres Trump,
<><> the 28 Dec 2018 letter to Sen Mitch McConnell, Acting AG Matthew Whitaker, and DoJ IG Michael Horowitz.

The key facts revealed:
<><> (1) the Obama FBI used, as the factual basis for the FISA applications, bogus info from the Steele dossier, a compilation of anti-Trump info that the FBI had not verified.
<><> (2) Obama's corrupt FBI nevertheless swore to the truth of that info to obtain surveillance warrants on Carter Page, Trump's one-time campaign advisor;
<><> (3) in the process of obtaining the search warrants the Obama FBI failed to inform FISA that the Steele dossier was bought and paid for by the DNC and Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

The Obama admin....hand-in-hand with his pal, NSA's Susan Rice.... asked for and obtained hundreds of “unmaskings,” of US citizens’.....
their communications were intercepted by the Obama FBI and NSA as part of so-called intel operations
.
Innocent Americans were unmasked, and were used against Trump in the campaign.

<><> Why did the unmaskings even occur, and what information was illegally shared by Rice with Obama and/or Hillary?
<><>What illegal direction did the FBI, the NSA, and other intel agencies take to monitor Trump-related communications?

Outrageously, Democrats have stopped the investigations cold. The most heinous aspect of this Democrat outrage is
that the Obama admin and his factotums ----like Third World tinpot warlords----calculatedly picked over the intel apparat,
set-up to protect the safety and security of Americans, to advance their scurrilous political schemes.
