Deputy picking up engagement ring turned away from store over service weapon

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. - An Iredell County deputy attempting to pick up a pre-purchased engagement ring from a Kay Jewelers Tuesday was turned away because his uniform, which contained a service weapon, didn’t meet store policy, officials say.

The uniformed deputy used his lunch break to pick up an engagement ring at Kay’s on Turnersburg Highway in Statesville. The deputy had already paid for the ring and was informed by jewelers that the ring was sized and ready for pick up.

The deputy says when he got to the store, he was told he wasn’t allowed to wear his service weapon on their premises.

“It’s not just an attack on this individual officer, it’s not just an attack on this agency. It’s an attack on law enforcement in general,” Sheriff Darren Campbell said.

The sheriff says the deputy spoke with the manager, telling them he was in uniform and his marked patrol car was in the parking lot. He said it would be a violation of policy to remove his service weapon while in uniform.

“This policy is in place for not only the safety of the deputy, but the general public as well,” the sheriff’s office said, backing the deputy’s claims.

According to the deputy, the manager told him he would need to return to the store when he was not armed.

“The reaction our deputy encountered is very difficult for us to comprehend, and we earnestly hope situations such as these are few and are diminishing,” the sheriff’s office

This is the MSM brainwashing our schools have been doing for decades. Manager has been taught guns bad, guns kill, people dont. Good luck finding a ‘thinking’ manager these days.

North Carolina. Never heard of that particular city but NC has been eaten up with stinking liberals of late. College town?

Are these people ever going to be of value? Or are they always going to be typified and defined by their abject stupidity? Inquiring minds, and all.

If I were the sheriff, I’d tell them, “Fine, you don’t want our protection, you won’t get any.”..................

I don’t understand the store’s policy.

If you are a bad guy with intention of robbing the place, the store’s policy would not stop them.

If you have a conceal carry permit, and your weapon is not visible, the store employee’s would never know.

So it seems the only people that would be turned away would be uniformed police officers. Does that make any sense.

I have noticed that the ‘managers’ at a lot of these type businesses aren’t much more than HS kids..............Especially fast food places................

"According to the deputy, the manager told him he would need to return to the store when he was not armed." Hmmm, sounds like fertile grounds for a jewelry store armed robbery and slaying of the manager. Any criminals out there paying attention....I will be watching the papers!😎 PS deputies won't respond😁

There are no winners here except the constitution.

That cop should have a gun on him. That jeweler should have a gun on them. We should all have guns on ourselves. This situation was solved 240 years ago.

The cop will disarm citizens. The store will vilify guns and be robbed..

Deputy should have reminded the manager that failure to deliver goods already paid for is larceny, a criminal offense. Also remind the manger that lying to a law enforcement officer conducting an investigation is also a criminal offence.

Then make a show of turning on a body cam or cell phone. “This is deputy XXXX at location XXXX on date XXXX. I am investigating a possible left of goods valued at XXXX.” Turn to the manager and say “For the record of this investigation, please state your full name.”

That usually sparks an “Oh shit” realization. Such theater will often remind the person that their store policy DOES NOT TRUMP LAW.

Why is it that the standard wimpy corporate response when they are caught out is to institute more training for what should have been the most simple of commonsense responses?

I would bet that is the case. Some nit wit taking the "gun free zone" sign out front a little too literally. Corporate is going to be doing some serious suck-up to mend fences I would bet?

why bother?

The company apologized over the dumb move by one of their employees, who possibly misunderstood their policies.

They are in the process of rectifying the matter.

It is fixed. Stop acting like the Covington attacking asshats.

Spend that energy going after things that matter, like Pelosi, Brennen, Clapper, and the rest of the deep state.

It's not Kay's policy. Unless the store is in a mall and it's the mall's policy, it must have been the store manager's personal decision.

Hahahahaha

This insane policy of “no weapons on premises” has finally come full circle. Now even an on duty police officer is being asked to disarm himself before entering a store.

Of course a private enterprise has every right to limit what they want on their own property but that’s not really the point. If we can’t even trust that an on-duty officer won’t rob the store while picking up his own ring, where are we as a society?

Law abiding citizens everywhere are being given more and more restrictions on their 2nd Amendment rights via store policies (and airports and government offices and courthouses) and the only ones who don’t obey are, guess what criminals! It has the exact opposite effect of what’s desired. It disarms law abiding citizens and thus leaves arms only in the hands of criminals, at the most vulnerable of locations.

This story only reinforces that fact. What if some armed robbers entered that jewelry store at that time and robbed the place just as the officer left the store? Wouldn’t that be irony! But just dessert to be sure.
