I’m over 65, receive a social Security Retirement pension (less than $1400) and also receive a union pension of $88-a month.
Right now I also receive $85 a month in food stamps. When my wife died her hospital bill was $495,000-(before she was eligible for Medicare)-.
The government legally confiscated the bulk of our savings-something (I found later) I might have prevented but I was too tied up in caring for my wife to worry about it. I wish I didn’t need the food stamp-but I do.
BTW-I still owe nearly $140,000 to the hospital. I’m still a dyed-in-the-will conservative-I just want people to be aware that some of us really do need food stamps. ..and I’ll admit, up front many of the stupid decisions I made caused me to be in the predicament I’m in.
Best wishes to you Larry.
