We know in great detail exactly what happened to Thresher and to Scorpion, with almost no uncertainty. There are several rumors. Whether or not the US-Soviet clash rumor is correct, as I said: “The first rule of the Silent Service is you do not talk about the loss of Scorpion.”

Is there somewhere I could read them?

I would hope so.

That article only covers part of what I have been told, and I was told what I was told back in the late 1980s.

If what I have been told is true, the Navy knows fully well what happened to the Scorpion.

Would, um, say, a country like, oh, say, China have any interest in reading a deep technical report, previously classified, of what went wrong in a deep sea diving nuclear submarine?

My ex-shipmate on USS Grampus SS 523 was an Electricians Mate Chief on the Thresher—it was sad to hear his name called as one of the crew.

That is what the commander is asking for. Almost everything is classified, much of it perhaps overclassified.

#9 Imploded in a blink of an eye. Pressure set everyone on fire then water pressure crushed everything. All in an instant.

The Scorpion sub had the forward 1/3rd of the ship pushed into the rest of the sub.
