Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made some bold claims in her latest Instagram Live video, suggesting millennials and Generation Z are better "informed" and more well-versed in history than past generations and, apparently forgetting about the turbulent '60s, are the first "willing to go to the streets" and challenge their government.
The New York Democratic congresswoman, who at 29 is a millennial herself, in a video that streamed live Tuesday night described how she thinks todays young people are surpassing past generations.
Young people are more informed and dynamic than their predecessors... they actually take time to read and understand our [world] history.
Um, what?
The freshman congresswoman then patted young Americans on the back for their activism, implying this is a new development for American political engagement.
I think this new generation is very profound, and very strong, and very brave, because theyre actually willing to go to the streets, she said. Previous generations have just assumed that governments got it.
Of course, this overlooks perhaps the most turbulent period in modern American history, the 1960s, which was marked by political protests over the Vietnam War, civil rights and more.

Protest government? HA! They’re literally begging for AS MUCH GOVERNMENT as they can possibly shell out.
Many of the founders of this country were in their 20s when they rebelled against the Crown.
LOL, she was born in 1989 and it shows.
Ignorance is bliss.
They aren’t protesting anything - they are simply asking for MORE government.
Not trying to start a religious argument, but if a Young Earth Creationist told AOC that the world began 5000 years ago, she would laugh — because she thinks the world began the day she was born.
Bump
Forget the 60’s, there was a large young protest generation in the 1760’s. And they accomplished something.
Didn’t happen because she wasn’t there. The Millennial Mantra.
And it’s fair to say the youth of the ‘60s, 1860’s, were active as well.
This country was founded on government protest.
“Informed,” indeed!
“I came to Casablanca for the waters. I was misinformed.”
To a liberal, history started at breakfast this morning.................
Of course. I wonder how many of these wunderkind know Locke, Livy, or Montesquieu?
The generation that did know "took to the streets" over 240 years ago, weren't wearing masks, and knew which bathrooms to use.
Not surprising to hear such drivel from Occasionally Coherent. Most of her generation believe that all history began in about 1986. What happened before then has been concocted in a movie studio or is pure fiction.
I wonder if she should be reminded of the anti Civil War draft riots in New York City circa 1863 (that were very anti black in nature to boot)?
Spot on!
Generational solipsism.
