It is interesting to read everyone’s story.
Mine isn’t so interesting, however.

I had gone to work early (typical for Tuesday through Friday), and I had no idea anything had occurred until after the second tower had collapsed.

I had left my office once to use the restroom and noticed I had not seen anyone there yet (but it was still before 8:00 Mountain time.)
My office-mate had not arrived yet, but that was not too unusual as he lived in the mountains and was late occasionally. We had two-person offices with doors (not cubicles), and was wrapped up in some code I was writing so I was completely unaware of the news.

Later, I finally saw someone in the hall and I mentioned that no one seemed to be around. He told me everyone was in the auditorium looking at the catastrophe.

I asked ‘What catastrophe”, and that is when I found out they had been hit by airplanes. I went to the auditorium and they had the news on a large screen. Soon thereafter they announced everyone could go home for the day - as they didn’t think much would be accomplished that day anyway, and they also expressed it was best to be with loved ones at that time anyway.

Amazon doesn’t have that T-shirt. Where did you get it?

I was at home, saw the second plane hit, went to my civilian office, got into the parking garage, then drove right back out and to my reserve unit, 340 FTG at Randolph AFB. I was the SJA, but as senior officer present, because AF JAGs are line officers, I ended up in command until the group CC showed up. We were 6 squadrons of reserve instructor pilots teaching active duty flying training. 90% of my guys were commercial airline pilots, so we spent all day running the recall rosters and posting 15-minute status updates. Turns out none of our guys were on those planes, but it was a high-stress day for everybody.

Colonel, USAF (ret)

I was walking past the front desk at the BP Milne Point oilfield camp on the way to my office in the medical clinic at 0600 Alaska Daylight Time. The TV was on and there was a group of people gathered there watching the small screen. I joined them. After US airspace was closed down we realized we were stuck because the only way on or off the North Slope was by air. Nobody complained. I lead a memorial service for about 100 employees outside the camp at the flag pole two days later. We sang the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America. I ended the service with this statement that I repeat now: May God Bless the United States of America!

The reason for Mullah Omar saying that was not to point the finger at any Muslim. That’s how they roll. Not sure about this person wearing a t-shirt. It’s not appropriate under the circumstances.

Actually you are right about the quote...
....George Bush said that about Bill Clinton, not Barack Obama

Now stop defaming me, thanks!

Where was I? I was standing on top of Mt. Whitney in California. Tallest mountain in the lower 48.

How did I find out? The top was covered with people most had cellphones for although miles away a cell tower in Lone Pine, Ca is line-of-sight from the top.

My first words after it sunk in: "We are at war". People were all talking to loved ones, trying to get new flight reservation, crying, bewildered.

The world had just changed forever for a whole generation for the whole world.

The event not only affected NYers and America, but cities around the world and penetrated miles into the wilderness.

God Bless those who gave and those who will. The world has changed... forever.

"Who stopped him and why?"

__________

I don't know who stopped him and why. As I mentioned above, my wife was watching the "reading", and I was cutting up apples for the deer we feed, when she reported that someone was wearing a t-shirt with "some people did something". Then, all of a sudden, she tells me he was gone.

Strange.

Prayers for them and their loved ones.

I had just come home from making the school run and rushed to start making a birthday cake without turning on FOX news which I normally did. My best friend called moments later telling about the first plane and I said it had to be that Bin what’s his name. We were on the phone together most of the day since she was at work without a tv. I associate her death shortly after with 9/11. Thought of her first thing this morning same as I do every year.

When the planes were allowed to fly again, I was with the kids at after school practice which was by the airport. It freaked me out to see the planes flying so close to the kids. Scary.

It was 0430 in the morning in Honolulu when my radio came on and woke me up and instead of music; the news was on.
