'No, your gun rights aren't actually safe with Trump'
Washington Times ^ | September 26, 2019 | Matthew Larosiere

Posted on 09/27/2019 7:48:32 PM PDT by TBP

Just this week, the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on banning assault weapons. Yet, the response from the Republican administration has been deafening silence, leaving millions of American gun owners like myself powerless against the continual assault to our constitutional liberties.

Mr. Trump and the Republican Party at large haven’t done gun owners any favors. The administration has managed to ban possession of “bump stocks” by administrative fiat, making felons out of tens of thousands of gun owners overnight. It also supported state efforts to implement red flag laws, restrict the gun rights of young adults, and threatened gun owners with domestic surveillance and unconstitutional seizures. So much for that “crashing end” to the assault on the Second Amendment.

But despite constant claims that Republicans are beholden to gun rights organizations, when the GOP held the entire government in 2017 and 2018, nothing changed — no concealed-carry reciprocity, no deregulation of firearm suppressors, no changes to any of the thousands of absurd regulations from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). In fact, during the time the Republicans controlled the entire government, all that passed was stiffer background checks. Mr. Trump could’ve taken action on many of these items anytime he wanted. This doesn’t sound like a party under the thumb of gun owners.

Clearly, the GOP has gotten lackadaisical on the concept of civil rights. Some Republicans are even throwing support to dangerous red flag laws and other worrisome proposals, such as the TAPS Act, which would see law enforcement combing social media for “threats” to “manage.”

It ain’t even in the radar...and there is no impeachment going on...only an inquiry, which is what the Dems were doing all along...they don’t have the votes and they know it. And as the polls keep coming out that say majority of Americans are against it and Trump’s popularity is still rising...that’s where it will end.

“’No, your gun rights aren’t actually safe with Trump’”

I know, right?

We all need to vote for Elizabeth Warren to protect our gun rights because Trump “can’t be trusted” ...

Liz will replace them with bows no charge however she will charge $28 an arrow online sales only. Joe will let us have a shotgun. We’d be much better off with Joe.

That’s what I was thinking. This reads like “hey I’m one of you, but we can’t trust...” but really it is a Trump hit piece meant to divide and conquer.

Trump is taking it from all sides.

Your gun rights are safer with Trump than if anyone else was president.

Give it a rest.

This cat does not understand gun ownership.

I do sense a cognitive disconnect. Who is this writer? I don't believe I've seen the name before.

Liz’s people assaulted Custer with Winchester high-capacity repeating rifles. She has some ‘splainin’ to do.

The lasting effect of 150 or more Trump judges along with 3 or 4 Supreme Court Justices far outweighs the benefit of temporary legislation that can be undone the next time liberals control the government.

It's hard for me to imagine even the worst judge that Trump might support who would find that adding a three-ounce plastic grip to a rifle changes it from a protected rifle into a so-called "assault weapon". We are so much better off supporting Trump than with any other alternative.

I have already sent Trump an amount greater than the sum of all my prior political contributions. I did this on the first day he announced. The damage that Trump has already done to liberal dreams in three years is immense. The damage he could do with another term brings a smile to my face.

You head in the sand types can ignore this all you want. The cold hard fact is that the bumpstock ban is clearly contrary to the federal definition of what a machine gun is (a fact that is easily ascertained by someone who can read at a 3rd grade level), and the horrendous precedent it sets means that any item that can be construed to help increase the rate of fire of a semi automatic firearm is subject to being banned without so much as a single vote in congress. That would include lighter weight triggers and magazines that hold 30 or more rounds, in case anyone was wondering.

We all had better hope that SCOTUS strikes the ban down, a matter which is a case still being litigated.

Before the screeching gets too loud, yes it is blindingly obvious that the left is trying to use this to divide and conquer. IT DOESN’T HELP THAT THE THINGS THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT TRUMP’S TREATMENT OF THE SECOND AMENDMENT ARE, FOR ONCE AND MAYBE FOR THE ONLY TIME EVER, ACTUALLY TRUE. For once, they are actually not lying on this one thing. It’s a bad idea to hand an enemy who hates you that much a legitimate criticism that will resonate with your own base.

The poisonous fruit of the bumpstock ban won’t come to full fruition until a Democrat holds the presidency again, but mark my words, this precedent, if it stands in court, will be used to curb stomp us. This is the only serious mistake Trump has made, but my God, it’s a doozy.

I have a feeling, could be wrong, that the incoming angry letters from gun owners finally got through to him that he was treading very dangerous electoral territory. The whole gun control thing seems to have vanished from the news cycle, largely because Trump isn’t talking about it anymore and due to the utter mess created by the new lies being used to justify a sham impeachment.

Even so, very real damage was done with the bumpstock ban, and the state level red flag laws which got passed with his encouragement. He does not simply get to get away with that because he has an R by his name. I wouldn’t tolerate any of that coming from a D, and I damned sure won’t tolerate it coming from an R. If he wants to be re-elected, he needs to shut up about gun control and start talking about rolling back some of the damage he did. If his ego won’t let him admit a mistake, that’s fine, I don’t actually care if he admits anything, as long as he does it. He can frame it any way he damned well pleases, far as I’m concerned.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn’t love FREEDOM enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.” Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn ,

There is only one way to take my right to have my weapons and that is to pass a constitutional amendment. Good luck with that! And if it did pass, they still have to come get them, and it won’t be pretty. We all have to die sometime . . . at least our bodies do. I know where my soul will spend eternity so bring it baby! I will love introducing a lot of the left wing-nut God haters to Jesus before I go!!!

"Your gun rights are safer with Trump than if anyone else was president."

Yep. Enjoy! The video should start where President Trump starts talking about our Second Amendment in his speech to the U.N. I also posted a relevant excerpt from the transcript of the speech.

I committed one error, though. The date of publication should have been entered as the 24th instead of the 28th. Oops!

With Civil War Two underway, gun control is dead. If Trump betrays his base on THE fundamental issue, he would be a goner. I don’t think he will.
