Isn’t that a product of innovation and automation? In other words, micro-economics 101?

Are you ignoring the unemployment rate? Where I live, it’s well under 3%. It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to hire good help, much less skilled help. I am looking at expanding my business significantly in the next 6-12 months. My biggest hurdle... finding the right people to plug into crucial roles.

Workers are more productive yet did not share in the high tech "bounty". That is what is caused the slowing birth rates. Importing more 3rd worlders will play right into the socialist hands. But you don't care....

Civic nationalism has been drilled into people’s brains by schools and the media for more than 60 years. You can’t put new wine into old wineskins, as a famous person once observed.

I don’t disagree with Kaplan. But we need legal immigration. Anyone who sneaks into this country must be deported, and should the powers that be allow any illegal aliens to stay, they must never be allowed citizenship - ever!!

Never heard of a Judge with a degree in Econ/Business. I doubt this one does. Most Lawyers get a liberal arts degree then go to law school.

“Then make it legal immigration.”

Elizabeth Warren would make the invaders and their relatives 100% legal.

Comments on this thread proves America as a Constitutional republic with a civic culture is dead. It will be a mere collection of mostly foreign tribes trying to cheat each other.

As long as metrics of success remain GDP and Dow Jones expect more debt, immigration (all kinds), and off-shoring of production. Wish we’d shift metrics to more family oriented things like median wage/cost of living ratios and such.

“This is the same argument that Germany and then other Eurpean countries used to encourage foreign workers from countries because of the demographics of their declining birth rate.

“Read America Alone and the sequel by Mark Steyn and learn how well that works out.”

And Le Figaro if you can read French.

we can’t wait 18-25 years for that population to enter the workforce.

F--ing poppycock. The population of the USA has almost doubled since 1960....

All Democrat candidates would, as would almost all those other GOP candidates from 2016.

One of the points being made here is that there is more, much more, to a community, and a nation, than its economy. Rather than trying to "grow" the economy at breakneck speed, IMO, we should do it the old-fashioned way - worker retraining and promote the native birthrate.

“Provide incentives for larger families “

provide proper incentives: such as a 20% income tax decrease up to $10,000

Current mass levels of legal immigration are steadily pushing the demographics of the nation to the Left and in favor of the Democrats. That’s just legal immigration, without the added weight of illegal immigration.

Increasing legal immigration is the same thing as increasing the net annual influx of future Democrats. That’s the truth, and any proponent of mass legal immigration, who is otherwise conservative, needs to accept and admit this simple fact.

The nation is more than just a big market or an economy, so even if GDP took a hit, that would be a price worth paying to eliminate absurdities like chain migration and the Diversity Lottery Visa program.

Of course eliminating those things wouldn’t necessarily result in a reduction in legal immigration because Republicans who are liberal on immigration (like Graham and most other GOP Senators) would only go along with abolishing chain migration and the DLV if they got at least an equivalent increase in employment based/merit immigration. And while that may be better than what we have, it would still almost certainly be a net importer of future Democrats, to the tune of hundreds of thousands or millions every decade.

“Anywhere? How so? Is that how the free market works? Who owes him that? Who pays for it?”

I would limit housing vouchers to $350 for the first adult citizen living in the unit...

We don’t have a free market in urban housing. I would move toward a free market in urban housing.

Well that's a deep subject by itself - and I completely agree on a fundamental level. The place to start? Re-establishing the core family. Next, the education system - both K-12 and higher education. Find me 300+ million who are willing to go down the road of rebuilding that completely broken system (which would require toppling one of the most powerful empires within our nation) and let's go! Until those things are addressed and fixed, we need more workers.

This arrogant fellow takes all of us for fools. We are not allowed to even count the number of illegal “immigrants” in the census, so how can he or we know how many “more” we need for “growth?”

And how does allowing in uncounted diseased and illiterate people who will be on public assistance for the rest of their lives constitute “growth.”

He may have a reasonable opinion that answers the above, but if he doesn’t make that completely clear in his first sentence, he’s a dangerous “intellectual” who should keep his mouth shut.

Translation: “You rubes are too dumb to work at the kind of scam tech companies (like WeWork) we need to IPO to keep faking economic growth. We have to import your replacements, or bonuses at the investment banks are at risk of dropping.”
