Don't assume the Senate would *never* remove Donald Trump
CNN ^ | Oct. 1, 2019 | Chris Cillizza

With the House now headed down a path that virtually guarantees President Donald Trump will be impeached, conventional wisdom has settled on the idea that the Republican-led Senate will never, ever remove him from office.

Which, I get! If you were a betting person -- which I am not! -- the strong likelihood is that the Senate acquits Trump. Because, well, math. There are 53 Republicans in the chamber currently and 47 Democrats and independents who caucus with Democrats. In order to remove Trump from office, 67 senators would have to vote to do so -- meaning you would need every Democrat and a 20-person Republican revolt.

Which is not likely!

The Senate better stay sane and NOT vote to impeach.

And a little more from the article:

“But if the Trump presidency — and the way in which he became president — teaches us anything, it should be this: Never assume. Anything.”

Wake me up on this when they find a crime. Otherwise any impeachment talk is just another Dem TDS fantasy.

If 20 GOP senators vote to remove, then they better start looking for other jobs after their next scheduled election contest.

Since watching Peter Schweizer on Levin the other night, I am a little less confident. Schweizer said that just about ALL of these Washington critters do business exactly the same way Biden and his son did. Maybe to a lesser degree, but it’s just the accepted norm for Washington...come in, make big money for you and your family, then leave.

If there’s enough senators on the take, they would gladly vote to impeach before being exposed.

The house isn’t ever going to vote for impeachment, this is just to get their base riled up because their current candidates can’t excite anyone.

Some of the Senate Democrats are starting to telegraph their opposition to impeaching Trump for having two scoops of ice cream and for having the temerity to defeat Her Pustulence in 2016.

The RINOs are not so stupid as to kill the Republican Party and have no power at all.

Wake me up when the House does an actually bonefide impeachment vote, not some lameass, non binding impeachment “inquiry” or whatever.

A real vote

Till then, this is just Democratic hot air

Trump better take a page from the bent one’s playbook and get his hands on some FBI files. Even with physical evidence from the dress, the threat of what was in the files kept that scumbag in office.

The author is not a betting man. But I am. So given the right odds (maybe 4 to 1) I would bet that the Senate would vote to remove Trump.

Here’s the way I see it. Some GOP senators put country first. Rand Paul is an example of that. But some GOP senators are instead Deep State operatives. Their backers like the status quo. They want the status quo. And Trump is an enemy of that status quo.

So I would be greatly disappointed - but not surprised - if the House voted to impeach Trump, and then the Senate voted to convict.

I haven’t been following the news on an hourly basis, but I haven’t heard a peep from Mitt Romney since he first opened his mouth about the Ukraine fiasco last week.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who responded to an RNC fundraising solicitation by sending back an envelope with no money and a direct, forceful letter telling them to have Mitt shut the hell up.

The purpose of this is to discourage any waffling house rats from not going for it. CNN and the rest of em want the impeachment in the worst way. That’s all this is. Transparent as hell. These people are children.

Well, if you were a betting man, then you would realize that not a single President has ever been successfully impeached since the countries founding.

T is number 45.

Two had impeachments turned over to the Senate by the House.

and then there is Nixon.

...

Dems are rehashing their Nixon glory as a comedy.

any gop senator who votes to impeach would be watched like a hawk until they were out of office at their next election...they would also be scorned in public...they might move to the top of the domestic enemies list when cw II breaks out.

There have been as many as 13 Rs vote with dims on the border issues against our country, President Trump, our citizens, and the rest of the Rs.

I do not trust them, just don’t trust them. I don’t see this as a cake walk. Too many Rs seem to support the socialist agenda.

We the people who don’t want this are going to have to stand tall and make them hear our voices loud and clear.
