That ethnic group as you call it is holding about 20,000 ISIS fighters for us. Once again, like obama pulling out of Iraq, we risk losing all the gains fought for and bled for in defeating the caliphate. Give this 6 months or a year, and you and I can look at the aftermath that this creates and decide if my concern here is idiocy. Where will those 20,000 ISIS fighters be?
The U.S. invades and occupies a foreign country (Syria), and captures 20,000 “prisoners” in the process. So now we have to maintain a permanent military presence in that country, because we have no idea what the hell to do with them?
I’m sure President Trump made this decision to let Turkey deal with this for one simple reason: He knows his predecessor and his own military advisors are laughing their asses off at him over his predicament.
And I’m sure his Attorney General has informed him that bailing out of Syria is the only way for him to save face, because the U.S. has no military or legal mechanism to deal with those ISIS “prisoners.” Think about it:
1. Congress never issued a formal declaration of war ... so they can’t be treated as prisoners of war.
2. If they ever set foot on U.S. soil, they have all the legal standing they need to pursue criminal charges against whoever was responsible for having them captured. Under U.S. law, they’re probably considered kidnap victims.
