Many people are without cell service after PG&E cut power to two milllion people and wildfires burn across California.
In Marin County, close to 50 percent of all cell sites are down. In Sonoma County, 17 percent of sites are without power.
"The biggest concern is that when it comes to 911 calls, 81 percent of 911 calls are made from your wireless phone so having cell sites down it's an incredible public safety concern that consumers cannot access emergency services," said Ana Maria Johnson with the California Public Utilities Commission.
Johnson said cell towers don't have back-up power systems because cell companies are not required to do so.
The Public Advocates Office, an independent organization within the California Public Utilities Commission, has petitioned the CPUC to require cellular companies to have generators and back-up batteries on-site.

Power out here 40 hrs, Did have Cell, and internet with Generators. STUPID More to this then Fires not sure what but will never convince me different, live in rural area.

I work for a company that owns and operates over 40,000 cell towers. Every single one has generator back up.

It’s California, where the laws of nature can be legislated away.
Do you happen to know what the run-time is? They've said the power could be out for 5 days. Are there teams that run around and fill up generators?
Are they going to install a generator for every neighborhood 5G tower?
So when do the mansions of Marin start being raided by the savages, when communications to law enforcement are down?
How will the people of California live?

Maybe the CA BLM should rethink this. People were confident that the Titanic was unsinkable and they were proven wrong.

At first, the conspiracy theories that the power outages and fires were designed for force people off the land seemed outrageous. I am starting to rethink that.

On the east coast the network with the most sites with automatic backup generators is Verizon’s.
