Putin pledges to 'do everything to protect Christians in the Middle East'

Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged to protect Christians threatened by the conflict in Syria, appealing to the plight of religious minorities as justification for Russia's involvement.

After a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Wednesday, Putin expressed sorrow over the persecution experienced by Christians in the Middle East, according to the Associated Press. Russian leaders have worked to develop close ties with Syria's Christian communities. Melkite Catholic Archbishop Jean-Clement Jeanbart has called Russia's intervention in the country a source of "hope for the country's Christians.

"The Middle East is the cradle of Christianity, and Christians are in peril there, facing persecution, being killed, raped, and robbed," said Putin. "Russia will do everything to protect Christians in the Middle East. We must help them restore and preserve their holy sites, preserve their congregations."

At a meeting later in the day, Putin expressed concern for the "massive exodus of Christians from the Middle East."

Yep. Eastern Orthodoxy was no match for Bernie Sander’s idol Marx.

Democracy is not for everybody.

Or every nation.

There are merits to the concept of Christian Monarchy. It’s the system by which Western Civilization was forged and flourished.

Read the history of the Holy Roman Empire of the Germanic Peoples. It flourished 1,000 years under such a system.

Democracy is not for everybody.

True. Democracy has only worked for nations that had a history under English Common Law and a Protestant cultural background.

“English Common Law”

True.

Be aware India is nowhere close to Protestant. Nor is it host to such history.

India’s democracy had a rather nasty hiccup under Indira Gandhi. Perhaps if India had been a Presbyterian nation, that could have been avoided.

Putin is a murderous former KGB thug and can’t be trusted at all. Putin interested in Putin. If he though that he could maintain and acquire more power by flying a rainbow flag and dressing as a woman, that’s what we’d see. I’m not buying this fake religious act at all, and it is stunning to see normal Deplorables fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

You care why he is doing it

I care THAT he is doing it... I don’t care why.

Like they say, God works in mysterious ways.

Not just deplorables, but Christians in the target zone in Syria. Putin’s popular with them. McCain and the other US patrons of jihadi militants, not so much

Obama witnessed a genocidal slaughter and did nothing secretly touched himself over it.

Fixed it for you.

Russia has used its self appointed role as a protector of Christianity to chip away at the Turkish sphere of influence for centuries.

Putin is positioning himself to be the new Byzantine Emperor.

I encourage the Russians to take back Constantinople.

Was that before selling us out to the Sauds and pissing on 3000 deaths by invading a 2 cent dictatorship, an invasion that made him and his friends rich, or after??

GW doesn’t know the first mother ####ing thing about Christianity.

What a joke.

And Putin is smart, not religious.

I don’t remember Christs’s enemies getting killed or meeting with accidents on are regular basis.

I’m GLAD Putin knows that Christianity is the only thing that can save the ME or the Western world.

Just as many non believers believe Christianity is needed here.

That’s all.

Nor is it a viable, stable democracy.

I agree, it is like Putin is a swamp creature, pulling these stunts to build a sympathetic chorus of Christians globally that may be inclined to look the other way (or worse, give tacit support out of a consistency bias) when he does bad stuff.

The Cross in the hand and the devil in the heart.

“” “” Russia has used its self appointed role as a protector of Christianity to chip away at the Turkish sphere of influence for centuries.”” “”

Is it bad? I think UK using Turks and Islam to keep influence in the Med and ME for centuries is worse. Makes little sense for US to take over their policies.
