Mmm. I have German stock and love those foods. I ferment my own sauerkraut and make homemade spaetzle. Red cabbage and sauerbraten round out the feast.
My mother was a great cook and she was famous for sauerbraten. But I will never make it because frankly, I hate ginger-based stuff. As a kid it made me want to barf. So I call it sour barf.
My parents still love it and oddly, the best closest to hers they love are from Greek-based restaurants very local. They tried a genuine German woman who operates just for dinner specializing in that(also very local), but said it wasnt that good. All our German sites have disappeared otherwise here so not much to compare.
