Colin Kaepernick abruptly canceled the workout the NFL scheduled for him Saturday, and instead worked out at a local Atlanta high school wearing a shirt comparing himself to a slave.
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback has not played since the end of the 2016 season, the same season he began protesting against the country as the national anthem played. Sadly, that's true. Not many people remember that Alex Haley was taken to court in 1978 and charged that Roots was substantially plagiarized from Harold Courlander's book, The African.

Courlander's witnesses included Michael Wood an English professor at Columbia University and an expert on plagiarism. Wood opined in a report that the evidence of plagiarism in Roots was 'clear and irrefutable' and that the copying of passages was 'significant and extensive.' After a five-week trial in federal district court, Courlander and Haley settled the case, with Haley making a financial settlement of $650,000 and a statement that 'Alex Haley acknowledges and regrets that various materials from The African by Harold Courlander found their way into his book Roots.' Haley claimed the appropriation of Courlander's passages had been unintentional. Shortly after the trial, however, Joseph Bruchac, an instructor of black literature at Skidmore College, came forward to swear in an affidavit that in 1970 or 1971--five or six years before the publication of Roots--he had discussed The African with Haley and had given his 'own personal copy of The African to Haley.' No One, I mean no one seems to remember that Kapernick was benched for poor play. He sat during the anthem then...After a few of games, a reporter asked him about not standing for the anthem. He mumbles something and pretty much said nothing....then a week or so later he said he was protesting (whatever the flavor that week)...
The ball started rolling then.
He was benched and threw a tantrum because he couldn’t play. The coach didn’t play him because he would throw interceptions or run backwards 20 yards and get tackled. He stank. He did have a good half season coming off the bench and took the Niners all the way...until he lost.

Let's give him credit for being smart, though. He's making far more money as a professional victim than as a professional athlete.
