Rising disrespect for cops not only wrong, it puts us in danger
New York Post ^ | December 16, 2019 | William Barr

Serving as a cop in America is harder than ever — and it comes down to respect. A deficit of respect for the men and women in blue who daily put their lives on the line for the rest of us is hurting recruitment and retention and placing communities at risk.

This month, Sgt. Christopher Brewster of the Houston Police Department was shot and killed while responding to a domestic-violence call.

Several hours later that same day, Officer Stephen Carr of Arkansas’ Fayetteville Police Department was ambushed and executed while sitting in his patrol vehicle. Last week, Det. Joseph Seals was shot and killed by those who carried out the Jersey City massacre. Seals’ funeral is Tuesday.

There is no tougher job in the country than serving as a law-enforcement officer. Every morning, officers across the country get up, kiss their loved ones and put on their protective vests. They head out on patrol never knowing what threats and trials they will face. And their families endure restless nights, so we can sleep peacefully.

Policing is only getting harder. Police officers are now required to handle the fallout from a vast range of social pathologies that were once the domain of social workers, psychologists and family members, such as mental illness, widespread homelessness and drug abuse.

Even more demoralizing, police officers must look on as the criminals that they have risked their lives to apprehend get turned loose by “social-justice” DAs and “progressive” judges who no longer see their role as protecting the community from predators. Some DAs have even exposed police officers to greater danger by announcing that they will not prosecute those who resist police.

Increasingly, police officers find themselves the subject of physical attacks. Assaults against police jumped 20 percent from 2014 to 2017

disrespect of police is down steam from disrespect of law and order caused by the very obvious examples on display that there’s one rule for our “rulers” and another rule for us. I suggest the AG address that problem and the other will take care of itself

Say, did you hear the one about the cop who read the obituaries to go into peoples' homes and rob them while they were attending funerals?

Why didn't the other cops have a blanket party?

How much longer will Cuomo be governor.

It seems like he has been there forever.

Nothing good will happen in NY until that Christmas Ball face monster goes away.

Wake up Manhattan.

Leftists destroy institutions to create chaos where they can step in and take power - leading historically to murder of millions.

When you rule ‘at the point of a gun’ you dont need ‘trust’ any more.

Barr is right of course. Respect for the law and law enforcement are necessary for a peaceful functioning society.

Bullfeathers. The only thing necessary for a peaceful functioning society is to have uniform cultural mores, a vast majority that lives by those mores, and the swift ostracism, isolation, exile, or execution for violators by the functional majority.

What we have now is a protection racket for about 140,000 - 200,000 households.Once the cops decided to enforce crimes against "society", while turning a blind eye to the criminals that employed them... well, any claim of respect or fairness in our justice system got tossed into the garbage in favor of the sinful lust for dominance, control, and power.

Rank & file LE are still (mostly) decent folks like you & I. Their political appointee leaders in the largest 50 cities in this country want us disarmed and then enslaved or dead.

Houston’s chief of police shielded an undercover agent who killed two people in their home and he had his own “throw down” drugs to plant ar the scene.

Most people on the right don’t need cops for their protection. But most folks on the left need them badly.

But who’s spitting on cops?

The people who need them most. Proving once again themselves to be just plain stupid.

If cops get the return of their batons and black jacks and resisting arrest becomes reason for their use........ crime will diminish.

The right to resist and to yell police brutality must end

Yet another article about how 'dangerous' police work is. Try being a commercial fisherman a while if you want to work at a job that is actually dangerous. Being a police officer isn't even in the top ten.
  1. Logging Workers
  2. Fishers and Related Fishing Workers
  3. Aircraft Pilots and Flight Engineers
  4. Roofers
  5. Refuse and Recyclable Material Collectors
  6. Structural Iron and Steel Workers
  7. Truck Drivers and Other Drivers
  8. Farmers, Ranchers and Agricultural Managers
  9. Supervisors of Construction Workers
  10. Grounds Maintenance Workers

When they stop menacing
and ticketing people over minor/imaginary offenses

When they start enforcing broken windows crimes
again

When they stop standing down when Antifa and
other Commie curs and Mexillegals run wild

They’ll get more respect

"Our AG is writing articles for a newspaper? How bizarre. Seems like there’s some other things he should be working on."

Even I can chew gum and type this at the same time. AG Barr has Durham working behind the scenes on what was originally an inquiry, but is now officially a criminal investigation. Stand by - it will take time to sort out all the players/criminals.

I believe Durham is trying to make an air-tight case against certain swamp creatures. He has to since politics/media and complex court procedures at that level requires REAL evidence, unlike the Impeachment political sham.

Exactly. I’m not sure when it happened, but somehow the public suddenly became “The Enemy” in the eyes of the police.

I really do feel badly that when I see a cop I feel paranoid instead of protected. They lie to the public constantly, yet if you misspeak, or remember something out of order, you are arrestable for “impeding an investigation”.

Yes, the police should be respected, but respect is earned. Stop treating the public like your bitter enemy and see how things improve.

Otherwise, this will end badly, for all involved.
