They voted 358 to 234 - a majority of 124 - in favour of the EU (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill, which now goes on to further scrutiny in Parliament. The bill would also ban an extension of the transition period - during which the UK is out of the EU but follows many of its rules - past 2020. The PM said the country was now "one step closer to getting Brexit done".

On the flip side, the clear swing in opinion in the UK, and Boris' huge majority, will show that leaving the EU doesn't have to create chaos. When Britian gets that trade deal with the U.S....you might see some other members having second thoughts.
I always wondered if NAFTA was America/Canada/Mexicos response to the EU. “We can do it too.” I remember people thinking that NAFTA was a stupid idea when it was created.

Probably overly simplified but — if it continues to be a benefit to a country to remain, then the country will probably remain. For Germany, it is probably a plus to remain a member since they will be able to dominate the region.

The EU has already made it difficult by trying to negotiate what the exit terms look like - including the demand for continued financial support.
They’ve succeeded in exposing the nature of the EU - it’s more of a cartel, trying to centrally plan everything, than anything that resembles the “United States of Europe”.
There are fishing towns in the UK that have been decimated by EU regulations - dictating whom can fish what waters and how much. It’s not just because of immigration.
The “remainers” argument is that the UK will go into a depression if they leave, although this already hangs over the country and the economy is showing no signs of impending doom.

I think the timely action would be to flood the senate with opposing opinions before they approve it, too.

Agreed. So, which party in the Senate? Republicans or Democrats or independent? I don’t trust Republicans to do the right thing for middle class Americans and I definitely don’t trust the Democrats. Both parties have different goals but the end result is the same.
Thank you for providing an opportunity to point out two foundational bases of our Nation.
The first is that political parties are not our government. They act like they are, they want US to believe that they are but they are not. We are. They are supposed to be our agents and do our bidding not our princes we have to serve.
Second, it matters not what party a Senator belongs to when a citizen of the state contacts the Senator of that state with a concern or question. It is the Senator's duty to respond to the citizen he was elected to serve.
So my advice is find out which Senator(s) represent your state, write him/her/them and btw, encourage your friends, family and neighbors to write him/her/them, too.

The UK is a member only until 31 January 2020.
It keeps the privileges and responsibilities during the transition period which is up to end 2020 but can be concluded earlier.
So Brexit happens at the end of January 2020
