White House adviser says Pompeo will not run for Senate
The Hill ^ | December 29, 2019 | Justine Coleman

White House national security adviser Robert O’Brien said Sunday that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will not run for a Senate seat in Kansas.

O’Brien said on ABC’s “This Week” that Pompeo told him that he plans to stay on as the secretary of state.

“I suspect Secretary Pompeo will stay,” O’Brien said. “I spoke with him about this two nights ago He said he's not running for Senate. He said he's staying as secretary of state.”

The White House adviser told ABC’s Jon Karl that he enjoys working with Pompeo and hopes he doesn’t leave, calling him a “fantastic secretary of state.”

“He was one of the president’s best picks for the cabinet,” he said.

Rumors have circulated over whether Pompeo would run for a Kansas Senate seat in 2020, with Republican lawmakers encouraging the move. 2020 Conservative Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach leads the GOP primary unless Pompeo enters.

Pompeo has repeatedly denied plans for a Senate run. But President Trump has lauded a potential Pompeo run, saying he would “win in a landslide” if he jumped into the race.

Good news if it holds true. I like Pompeo where he is. Right now, I see him as the best person to succeed Donald Trump as president. He has excelled at everything he's ever done.

I think he, rather than Pence, has the skills to replace Trump in 2025! Perhaps Trump sees it and is grooming him for such a run,

Judging by the comments on that Hill article, this is the right move.

Mike Pompeo and Stephen Miller are the two best appointees made by President Trump. They are doing fantastic work to dismantle the deep state. Just look at how the the left hates Miller. It’s because he is vary effective.

“...I see him as the best person to succeed Donald Trump as president.”

Definitely the best choice.

Kris Kobach is on a roll, and looks hopeful.
Maybe Mike was encouraged to not interfere with Kobach’s likely victory. The president has always liked Secretary of State Kobach.

Kobach was to be considered for a role in the Trump Administration as “Immigration Czar”, but his demands may have been too much for the Trump Team to accept.

Kobach wanted round the clock access to a private jet, a promise that Trump would nominate him to be head of Dept. of Homeland Security by November of this year, provided Kobach did not wish to continue in the Czar role. Weekends off at his home in Kansas, was another demand.
Some people in the administration were surprised at the ‘presumptuousness’ of Kobach’s list.

Reading all these rah-rah Pompeo comments, I think I must have been transported to The Twilight Zone. Next will come the Nikki Haley as his VP crowd.

I like Nunes, but it’s highly unlikely he could go from the House to the White House. It just doesn’t happen. In California, he would be a long-shot to win a US Senate seat and neither is up for grabs in 2020.

A cabinet appointment might be a good transition step (a la Pompeo), and if Trump wins next year maybe he can find a position for Nunes.

There are others in the House who could stand more grooming, like Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz. Ohio has no senate election in 2020, so Jordan can’t run for that. Gaetz can’t run in Florida for the same reason.

If Trump wins he’ll be in a position to appoint any of the three to his cabinet or a prestigious adviser position.

Governorships in California, Ohio and Florida...none of them has a 2020 election.

Heck yes!

I think Pompeo is the best Sec State we have ever had, and that includes Dr. Strangelove.

Very glad to hear this news.

I like Florida Gov DeSantis. Young, conservative, photogenic in 2024.

Pence never was a fighter. Glided on the coattails of Mitch Daniels as Indiana Gov. DeSantis locks up Florida for us, a must state with varied demographics.

Trump stole the blue collar vote from the Dems. The rust belt states will be easier to keep.

Trump has to campaign in Kansas anyway. Keep Senate seat and take back the House seat in Lawrence, KS.

Trump does double duty in 2020. Needs all the flyover states house seats lost in 2018. MN, MI, IA, KS, OK, TX, NM, UT, AZ, GA, SC, and FL are all seats needed taken back.
