Rand Paul threatens fellow Republicans with explosive witness votes

The Kentucky Republican is occasionally at odds with Trump, from his strike against Iranian General Qassem Soleimani to his national emergency to build his border wall. But when it comes to impeachment, Paul is taking the hardest line possible in Trump’s favor.

Paul says if four or more of his GOP colleagues join with Democrats to entertain new witness testimony, he will make the Senate vote on subpoenaing the president’s preferred witnesses, including Hunter Biden and the whistleblower behind the Ukraine scandal — polarizing picks who moderate Republicans aren’t eager to debate. So he has a simple message for his party: End the trial before witnesses are called.

“If you vote against Hunter Biden, you’re voting to lose your election, basically. Seriously. That’s what it is,” Paul said during an interview in his office on Wednesday. “If you don’t want to vote and you think you’re going to have to vote against Hunter Biden, you should just vote against witnesses, period.”

There's a lot wrong with Rand Paul. But this ain't one of them.

Rand Paul is like the old Democrat Congressman from Ohio who was right half the time and wrong half the time. I can’t remember his name. He used to wear a toupee that looked like a racoon.

BZZZZZZZZZ...

Who is James Traficant?

Alex, I'll take Zany Politicians from Ohio for $1000.

He sure does and that message is going to be sent loudly and quietly through other sources.

Rand Paul’s views ave been consistent. I believe he is an anomaly, an honest politician.

I can’t go along with him on his open borders views, but he is right here and has been loyal to the President.

The President should listen.

The big wild card here is Bolton. Everyone assumes that he would work against President Trump, but I have a strong feeling that he is made of sterner stuff, and will take the opportunity to wail on Democrats.

I read the article...and that changed my initial reaction to the headline. Whether one likes Collins, Murkowski or not, those two skate on thin ice. Collins was strong on Kavanaugh and Murkowski figured out a way to somewhat dodge that issue. Both at times are useful to Trump.

Trump's defense in part contains the correct assertion that he has the right and duty to investigate and root out corruption. If witnesses are allowed, those in the orbit of the Biden-Ukraine money machine must be subjected to cross examination. Paul can at times be infuriating while a pitched battle is in progress against the gutter snipe Dummycrats. But he does more good than harm.

Proof that a voter in a Democracy/Republic cannot be happy all of the time. I think what we are most concerned about is fairness.

Imagine, a person not sworn to support the president, nor the cause du jour, but sworn to the Constitution.

He’’s not targeting the Dems.

Rand’s not perfect, but he’s still one of our best senators. (Not that that’s saying much.)

Not nice. How do you know how “most of us” feel about that poster?

Totally agree.

Maybe I’m a loser but someone explain why Republicans are reluctant to call witnesses.

Probably because so many Republicans have been dipping their beaks into the same waterholes as the Democrats. Them what lives in glass houses may be reluctant to throw stones.

I believe the establishment Republicans have always wanted Trump to be gone. At the very least, they would like some kind of handle to control him with. The impeachment "trial" makes them think they have a chance to make some deals.

Certain special powers of mine, been with me all my life.

You, ah, feel something a little special for me, am I right?

Right?

Sure I'm right.

we need loose canons. I would rather have a rand Paul who is his own man then a sycophant that when they see an advantage could turn on anyone. I love people who are consistent on there principles it means good honest arguments.

I believe the establishment Republicans have always wanted Trump to be gone.

I think this is as plausible as anything I could come up with...exSenator Flake and his brother Mittens, as well as any close ally of the Bush clan- for instance, would shed no tears over a conviction.
