Once Hopeful in Red Areas, Weary Resisters Become the Resisted
The New York Times ^ | February 6 2020 | Campbell Robertson

WASHINGTON, Pa. — In the winter of 2018, Cindy Callaghan knocked on doors. Lots and lots of doors. A new soldier in the sprawling ranks of the anti-Trump resistance, she spent her weekends in the small towns of southwestern Pennsylvania, telling strangers about Conor Lamb, the Democrat who was running for Congress in a district that President Donald Trump carried by nearly 20 percentage points.

When Lamb won his special election in a narrow but stunning upset, it seemed that there was an opportunity, if enough people put in enough work, to change minds and thus change the country’s politics. “I felt like there was,” Callaghan said.

Now, as she watches the Republicans’ swift rebuff of impeachment charges, the meltdown of the Iowa caucuses and the infighting among the supporters of various Democratic presidential candidates, she feels that less and less. “It doesn’t matter — find any kind of totally corrupt thing that Trump did, and it doesn’t matter,” she said. “Republicans are just unified. They’re a damn steel curtain.

Unthinking, uncaring, mind-numbed Republican robots.

Yep, that’s the problem.

Cindy, if the Republicans are doing that, it’s because they learned it from you Democrats under Obama.

A steel curtain, Ms. Callaghan?

That’s not steel. It’s titanium.

Take it from this Donald Dem, sweetheart, you have no idea.

*IF* 20% of FReepers who have never donated, reach into their wallets and pull out some $, and DONATE, the donkey foot soldiers will be defeated.

It takes $ to run campaigns.

Oh bless your heart, pumpkin! How dare republicans fight back against liberal lies, corruption and the swamp. News flash: you have zero clue what’s coming. Canvass THAT!

Clueless.

What this moron does not seem to understand is Republicans lost the house because they deserved to. They refused to overturn the the Obama agenda as they had promised voters they would. So people did not turn out to vote for them. These same voters are not going to vote fore a Democrat who is even more extreme than Obama

“Republicans are just unified. They’re a damn steel curtain.

DemocRATs have been unified for decades, and they circle the wagons any time one of them comes under scrutiny for their many transgressions against the American people. It's about time Republicans showed as much unification in protecting the ideals of this nation. It looks like Trump inspires the stiffening of Republican spines, and it is a wonderful thing to behold.

With little pre-existing Democratic Party infrastructure in many places and, for now, without a single cohesive candidate to unify the base, upholding enthusiasm “is a really heavy burden to put on the backs of these individuals,” said Dana R. Fisher, a sociology professor at the University of Maryland who has studied the new activism. “People are just burned out and they’re worried,” she said, pointing to the Iowa Democratic caucuses, where turnout was lower than many had anticipated, as evidence.

I'm cautiously optimistic ...

They sure do. New Jersey Rat Senator basically caught “red handed” screwing underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic and they sure circled the wagons around him.

It is funny because they have been flogging their poor retards to a frenzy every day with a new hair on fire Orange Man Bad for 3 years now. They are burned out when they should be at their freshest. But they are instead shell shocked, battle weary foot soldiers. Think Napolean’s Army returning from Russia. The next 9 months are going to be a heartbreaking slog for them and they have earned every inch of it.

If Cindy were to encounter me at my local WalMart she'd get a whiff of....Right Guard deodorant and Irish Spring soap.

And Head and Shoulders shampoo.

Ooops, almost forgot...she'd probably also detect the Tide detergent I use in my washing machine."Fresh Breeze" I think it's called.

. “It doesn’t matter — find any kind of totally corrupt thing that Trump did,..”

It amazes me that tens of millions of Americans are literally delusional. A nation cannot go on like this...

Indeed in Pennsylvania steel curtain only refers to one thing and it goes back to a time when the NFL wasn’t so political.

For the Dems, that's not a bad thing.
