There is a disturbing pattern to some comments on these coronavirus threads.
Some people seem hopeful that this virus will be very bad. It’s like they can’t wait to tell everyone they were right about it first.
It validates their emotional investment in predictions of an impending doomsday just around the corner.
Trolls??
My extended family behaves this same way. My husband and I call it “monkey-brain”. A good solid meteor strike will distract them.
Not to be harsh, but a big part of me thinks its part of some fatalistic attitude from health challenged boomer-age folks that know they're more susceptible to the flu to begin with.
Many, not unlike many of these coronavirus threads (more or less), were breathlessly announcing the end of civilization as we know it.
I should have known better than attempt to reason with some people about Ebola. A day or two after my comment I get a not so subtle email telling me to go eff myself.
