Fatality rate of the flu in America is about .8%. Fatality rates seem difficult to ascertain since many people never see doctors and just recover. This is happening with this virus also according to the medical people.

I think Trump is betting that this is scenario with this corona virus. That it will be just a little worse than a bad flu season ultimately and isn't going to impose any draconian measures in order to stave off panic and not crash the US economy. I think he'll be successful.
