Sadly most Freepers ( and most Republicans in general ) are Free Traitors™ and Trump’s election has not changed them one bit. I’ve learned that to them, “Free Trade” is a religion.

there are very good reasons not to put china on the defensive publicly at this point.

this is a very fluid geopolitical situation. a big plague marker just escaped from pandora’s box and it sitting in the middle of the board (dropped on accident I assume) and the last thing you want is the country that 1)may have more variations of it and 2)may be worst hit by it thinking their best option is add more spice to the soup. They could do it, and may do it if their best chance of survival in power says go that route.

for this reason rumors of a different strain in iran are particularly terrifying just in the idea it could be true and would not be accidental release.

The nearly identical S. Korea and Italy stories will be epidemics touched off by asymptomatic people.

Quarantine of ill people only is guaranteed to fail.

We don’t even have the equipment to make the equipment anymore to any great extent.

All that got shipped to China in the 00’s.

Literally prised off factory floors, loaded on flatbed rail cars and sent to our port cities.

It will take years to undo the damage caused by free traitors.

I fully support show trials for free traitors.

China is ultimately responsible for 97% of our antibiotics. Even those made in India are made with ingredients from China.

Imagine we’d gotten into a hot war with China and no medical supplies (no OTC meds, no antibiotics, no prescription meds, etc...)

Even vaccines made here use ingredients from China.

Yes! Of course they will sacrifice their economy in the short term to re-establish control!

You make very very good points.

We aren’t at war with China, but we DO know they’ve got a lot of other nasty bugs in reserve.

They’ve got the whip hand over us right now.

And not just them. If any bad actors want to slipstream some nasty microbe into the mix, this is a great time to do so.

I understand...no indictment here. Just saying, it’s a flash in the pan. It’ll all be history in a few weeks.

Secondly, the headlines the major leftist media attempts to suppress...multiple nations are beginning trials of vaccines.

Once they lose that economic capability, control gets dicey.

The ONLY reason many chinese support CCP/PLA is the incredible increase in their standard of living over the past 30 years. The fact that they can buy cars, take trips and have modern conveniences allows them to ‘overlook’ the more egregious human rights aspects of communist control. No different than the average german who benefitted from nice roads, trains that ran on time and guaranteed employment overlooked their semitic neighbors ‘going up the chimney.’

Once those supply chains move...that standard of living will crash.

The CDC may be overwhelmed by affirmative action hires.

Yesterday they said something like we will need 300 million respirators, and there are only 30 million available.

What in the world does that mean? What's a respirator? For hearth care workers? For the population?

Very uneducated statement to make without giving specific details on what that statement detailed.

https://www.cips.org/en/supply-management/news/2020/february/pg-warns-17600-products-possibly-hit-by-coronavirus/

“Consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble has warned around 17,600 products could be affected by the coronavirus.

P&G’s CFO Jon Moeller, speaking at the Consumer Analyst Group of New York conference in the US, said P&G used 387 suppliers across China, shipping more than 9,000 materials.

“Each of these suppliers faces their own challenges in resuming operations,” he said.”

Not that DJT needs me to tell him anything - but now -right now would be a great time to get out in front of this Coronoavirus.

Make a Prime Time announcement. Show pro-active initiatives are in place. Increase the CDC to elevated action levels. Re-assure the people the USA is ready for any contingency.

Blah, blah blah.

Because if this virus has even a remote chance of affecting Americans, Democrats will be all over this by blaming Trump.

With just in time being all the rage, when were the supply lines cut and when should actual effects be felt?

The Chinese people have tasted freedom in a way that German’s could have never imagined. The leadership is losing control...then suddenly this magic ‘virus’ appears allowing them to flex their muscle.

It’s amazing how such a horrific virus has not left hundreds of thousand, if no millions of dead bodies scattered across Asia and Europe isn’t it? If not for the ‘heroic’ efforts of the Chinese government....

Already being felt.

https://fortune.com/2020/02/21/fortune-1000-coronavirus-china-supply-chain-impact/

LG and Samsung have shut down some of their operations as well. Those impacts will likely increase as the virus spreads in SK.

https://www.industryweek.com/supply-chain/article/21123065/coronavirus-components-troubles-have-just-begun

etc.

Lots of articles out there. It isn’t ‘hype to get trump’, it’s economic reality.

The market responds to economic conditions.

Products to sell, profit to make, market goes up.

No products to sell, no profit to make, market turns down.

One question that hasn’t been asked extensively is this. How many ‘critical people’ has China lost to this. Either dead, or acutely ill. Or just chronically ill for months? How will they restart lines if more than a few of those people are out? How long to retrain replacements? And do you want to buy those first things off that line?

Every story from the fake news must be viewed through the lens of “they only report what they think can be used to hurt Trump and by extension America.”

I read an MSNBC article yesterday. 2 paragraphs on what the CDC said, 2 lines on what President Trump said, and then 8 paragraphs of Pelosi and Schumer ranting about how badly Trump is handling this “very serious situation”.

If this civil war ever goes hot, there are going to be some very obvious early targets.

We’ll see.

China’s leadership might be able to maintain control through this.

But rest assured, while they may be using the virus to mop up dissent, they’re not crashing their economy deliberately just to mop up dissent. They could (and did) do that without a virus, quarantines of hundreds of millions of people and digging up the roads.
