Panic buying strips store shelves as people stockpile amid coronavirus outbreak
Daily Mail (UK) ^

Supermarket shelves are starting to be stripped bare as Americans prepare for the spread of coronavirus by stockpiling on medications and non-perishable items across the country.

People have been panic buying items from stores ever since health authorities warned that Americans should start preparing for domestic acceleration of the virus, which has infected more than 80,000 people worldwide and killed nearly 3,000.

There are now 60 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the U.S. and the first case where the origin of the disease is unknown was confirmed on Wednesday.

Supplies have been flying off the shelves countrywide this week with people posting photos on social media showing the lack of products available in some stores and pharmacies.

A supermarket aisle in Virginia had been stripped of non-perishable items like pasta.

People were also sharing photos of their coronavirus stockpiles at home, including one man in Texas who said he bought a year's supply on non-perishable food in one night.

Jesse Colombo, who is a financial analyst in Dallas, tweeted a photo of his emergency food pile, including rice, Spam, freeze-dried foods and beans.

'I just bought an additional year's worth of food last night. Everyone needs to have a stockpile of food. I wouldn't even touch stocks (or even gold/silver) before having food in these times,' he tweeted, adding he was 'on edge' with everything that was happening in relation to coronavirus and the economy.

A woman in Michigan shared a photo of her 'grocery store basement' that was filled with shelves stocked full of items.

It comes as thousands of people were buying up face masks to protect themselves despite evidence that most people who aren't sick don't need to wear them.

Possibly propaganda to cause panic in the UK.

The article is nonsense - I don’t hear anyone talking about doing this, I don’t see any unusual activity. There’s always going to be some ‘preppers’ out there that the media will get sound bites from.

I really think this is about causing panic to disrupt global markets, all to hurt PDJT this November. They really are that sinister.

I talked to an old friend on the phone today and she had no idea CoronaV even existed let alone the media panic.

That reminds me of a video I watched on youtube about a guy in CA whose bug out plan is to head to the high country. He’s built and stocked 25 spider holes 15 miles apart along his route.

When people come to raid his home out in the forest he’s not going to fight. He’ll leave and be gone a while then come back with NV and pick the invaders off one by one.

This is garbage to try to incite panic buying and panic in general. On the part of the MSM and some FReepers.

I live in Michigan. We had some decent snow blow through here this past week and that always drives some stocking up. I was at my local Kroger last night and they had plenty of whatever you need.

I purchase an entire basement of toilet paper. I bet the preppers did not think of toilet paper.

I can use it to trade for food, bullets and etc.
I figure one slice of toilet paper is worth a least two slices of bread. I will trade a roll for two steaks. Six rolls for a bottle of Rum.

People panic when they are sitting on that golden throne and realize they don’t have that golden toilet paper.

When the heat goes out you can use it to keep warm too.

I see Asians with masks on, but that is typical with Asian Canadians. Any kind of outbreak out come the face masks. Strange.

“There are a lot of people who are going to be wondering what to do with all of the cans of soup and rolls of toilet paper when this blows over.”

Really?

So no ACTUAL panic but markets tanking (except copper which is weird in itself). This looks orchestrated. But it would require the help of high ups in the trading firms. Would they really willingly lose money? Or maybe they are willing to lose clients’ money to help old pal Soros out here?

“In areas that get snowfall you will often see this phenomenon. 12 inches of snow and you would think there will be no eggs milk or bread for months.”

We used to see that in the 70’s in Alexandria VA. We used live at an apartment around the corner from a local Safeway. The shortages we saw were the same albeit for much shorter durations. All it took was a couple of inches of snow then bingo bango no eggs milk or bread. Just like clockwork.

The next thing that happened was all the old ladies would get in their Buick deuce and a quarters (225) and drive north on Massachusetts avenue in DC, till they spun out or got stuck. LOL.

The doc on CBS This morning says masks are for those who HAVE a virus, not those who don't. Honestly, if you have a virus you should self quarantine i.e. STAY HOME.

They're sitting pretty no matter what. If there are home quarantines their stock will increase.

“I asked it many many times and so far nobody can give me a reasonable answer. “

Here. I’ll help you out.

This is a new strain of a corona. Since we dont have regular flu vaccines for it yet, people cant get their yearly shots, like they do any other year with the other types of flu.

The reason why other flus are not interrupting society is because people get those shots. That makes it harder for it to spread. People DO still get the flu. Not as many gets it to the point where it affects places to the point where stuff has to stop. You can look in many articles and read yearly how much those work absences do cost business. You can also understand the vitriol against “anti-vaxxers”. Most people in the end usually just get mild symptoms that require just some sleep, medicine, and maybe some chicken soup.

And yes, as stated, lots of people do die from it. Again, you just dont notice.

Obviously as this one caused a lot of grief in China, as it is a communist sh*thole with an incompetent government, they got their asses handed to them early, and the whole world saw it. There was no reason for that level of FUBAR if they were on the ball and behaved more like Singapore or Taiwan.

So now their F-up becomes a problem we have to deal with as our retard CEOs depend on that nation for their supply chains, hurting the economy for a few weeks. Because of the scary images out of China, and bored idiots at home writing evermore outlandish stories of doom and such to dump on the internet, you now have all of these measures needed to take place to calm people the hell down.

If this originated in Iran, you would not have as big an issue. If it originated in S. Korea, it would have been contained weeks ago.

H1N1, Swine, Avian, SARS all were deadly outbreaks. I was a big Info Wars guy back then and Jones sure as hell hyped that stuff up. Thankfully the media and social media wasnt the breading ground for nonsense as it is obviously today.

Governments dont want this to spread, as they shouldn’t. Not because it’s going to kill massive numbers of people as our wannabe Alex Jones clones scream, but because the disruption from needless panic and rumor-mongering like this:

“Because maybe there’s a lot more to this than they are willing to tell us peasants. “

DO hurt society more. During WW2 people and troops were educated to not let their damn fear get the best of them to incite panic.

Still shouldn’t the idea of a company trading 200 times earnings be MORE scary to the markets than NO DEATHS panic in North America?
