You do realized the deaths in Washington State that no one was under forty, most close to their 80s? And all had underlying health issues.

Have the hospitals in Washington State been overrun yet?

That’s the crunch point.

While infected patients with severe cases (15% of total # infected) can still receive first-world isolation ICU level care, with oxygen intubation etc, death rates can be kept low.

Once the case #s go geometric, hospitals are overrun, and the 15% severe cases turn into many many more deaths.

Q 1. Do you disagree with the above?

Q 2. Do you think some special quality of American hospitals will prevent them being overrun, as has happened in part of S. Korea, Italy and Iran?

By the end of March, we’ll know if things like political rallies, conventions, ball games etc will even be allowable.

I’m in NE Florida. We have confirmed CV cases near Atlanta, Pensacola, and Tampa.

On our local news, they are already talking about schools adjusting their protocols, canceling trips, with teams planning to keep adjusting as the news changes.

In China, Iran, Italy, Japan and S. Korea, all schools from K to U have been cancelled.

Are they overreacting?

Are we special, different? Or are we just a few weeks behind them in the progression of the disease?

I think in a place like FL, when you get out of the LARGE cities, there is a lot of space. You can spread out physically more than the folks in NYC.

My brother lives down in Eustace, right near the Ocala forest. His nearest neighbor is hundreds of yards away. Its pretty easy to hunker down on a farm like that (I guess they could eat his horse, or his wife...six of one, half dozen another.)

Personally, I cannot fathom going to a large gathering now—let alone in two months.

In the end, I think we will be similar to everyone else. I think it might depend which version/strain becomes prevalent in the US.

And it might be two or more strains, washing back and forth. Some in Italy and Germany have both S and L types.

I agree about SPACE.

Trump should stop with the happy talk like “ go to work if you are infected”, tell everyone it’s going to be rough, and start acting like a wartime president.
...
Being too ignorant to know you are stupid is one thing but lying about the president is another. He did not say if you are infected go to work.

What specifically should PDJT be doing differently?

who would you RATHER have there, Trump or a democrat running this?
...
I think you read my post too fast. Please re-read it. I was defending president Trump. There are liars here who said he said go back to work if you are infected. President Trump never said that.. I think we have a lot of Romney supporters here who are putting President Trump down thinking he’s not doing enough. Instead of being a backseat driver some people here need to pray more.

“Mr. Trump went on to say that in many cases, “They’ll get better very rapidly, they don’t even see a doctor, they don’t even call a doctor.”

“So if, you know, we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better, just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work, some of them go to work, but they get better,” he said.”

Oh. this ignorant person has 30 years as an Emergency Physician. Was an AF flight surgeon, and spent 10 years as an EMS director. My rectum knows more about this disease then you do.

I am not sure what these numbers mean. testing criteria changes alone can skew this beyond usefulness.

I don’t believe you get slowing case growth (real not tested) until you begin to exhaust the pool of non-infected persons available as a % of all exposed people. that happens pretty late. social distancing schemes can slow it, but I am not sure how widely they are implemented in korea.

I realize it is all we have to go on now, but the confirmed positive test number is a horribly flawed mechanism to gauge anything. a much better one is number of people seeking medical attention for either undiagnosed respiratory issues (and turned away) or viral pneumonia. is that stat available?

By all means then, call his office and help out. I’m sure Romney could use your help, too. Oh, I’m also confident you got the quote exactly right, the right context...PDJT is indeed an idiot and the MSM who quoted him is trustworthy.

Carry on, however, Mr genius.

at this point I would hope he realizes this is going to cost him the election and just do best to mitigate it.

he may believe the best approach is keep the economy rolling straight through it. I don’t even know if he is wrong. the country is going to take a hit no matter what. how do you balance those factors?

the cdc has performed at the level folks learned to expect from fema/katrina, and botched the first major emergency that is a primary part of their function. at this point just assume they are either weeks late or lying if they say something.

I don’t understand the issue about banning travelers more aggressively, but then again, a democrat would likely never even have taken the steps trump did. no win situation there.

I expect this to become endemic worldwide. it is a horrifying prospect, unfortunately.

It’s already a pandemic by every definition. The W.H.O. is totally owned and operated by the CCP. They are worse than a bad joke.

LOL. I’m busy. In the ER. Seeing patients.

And I’ve been a huge Trump supporter since 2016.
But that doesn’t make me blind or stupid.

But that doesn’t make me blind or stupid. ... Though we disagree I still consider you my friend. I would encourage you to think about the Ebola virus and the Stars virus both which occurred during Obama reign of terror and that said those were downplayed and he didn't do crap but the media gave him full cover and we even imported many of those into the country who were not our citizens to take care of. That was very suspicious. I am self-employed so I do have the luxury of being able to listen to the radio once in awhile. Rush Limbaugh had a very good perspective today which you might have disagreed with. He mentioned that he's not going to live his life in a prison. Just wanted to remind you about the difference between the way this is being covered now with President Trump with many many fewer deaths and how there was very little coverage and how it was touted how much of a genius that Obama was when both of those virus outbreaks occur. And I do still think this was released on purpose we may part ways on that but that's okay.

he has been here since 1998 and signed up in 1999. left in 2012 for reasons which a mod previously deleted a post for mentioning but has lurked since then. he thinks this virus is serious enough to have ended 8-year no-posting rule. he is no longer sure which email his original account is under (He has a bunch accumulated over the years).

questions?

looking further at your account -

while it is true you have been here almost as long as me, I don’t think I remember you from before.

In any event, this kind of ad hominen attacking is part of why I left. I won’t leave now, however, in case you get ideas.

if you think this virus is just the flu or a temporary inconvenience or even a non-issue that is up to you. enjoy. If you think any of those things, I do think you are committing a class A error, but that is your prerogative and I may well be wrong. check back in a few weeks and gloat, if you wish.

since countries are changing their testing criteria almost daily, total positive tests on any ongoing basis is almost a useless stat en aggregate.

what I do think is death rates are likely the tell stat. need to account for when a country’s health system is finally at capacity and folks are turned away who 100% need acute care, but beyond that, both italy and korea should be illustrative. time-to-doubling is what I am looking at here, it may give some indication, taken as a moving average etc etc, of doubling time of infected population.

I am honestly puzzled at the low korea fatality numbers, I would have thought they were at a similar point as italy (or iran for that matter) given commerce and proximity.

hard to know how far behind italy the US is since the US has gone to great lengths not to be able to test, 2-3 weeks? there are clearly clusters in multiple parts of the country and I personally assume in ever major city + lots of others. (iow, everywhere).

finally figured out which email it was. unfortunately there are people like you here that look at signup dates when they cannot actually debate what is being discussed.

continue your investigation. I have been here longer than you.
