This 'heavy handedness' is happening all over America. Illinois governor mandates that all restaurants and bars CLOSE until March 30. SC's governor has canceled primaries and is shutting down commerce as well (he's a repubic). Ohio...same thing and he is also a repubic. And there is a town in NY that has been quarantined and I read that the National Guard has been sent in to ensure no one leaves.

This is how a free people lose their liberty and fall into a totalitarian state.

This is the result of the President declaring a 'National Emergency'. When that was declared, certain procedures kicked in allowing these fascists to do this.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Benjamin Franklin

So does the guy feel sick. Seems like if he was feeling ill he would have not bolted.

It's okay if it has a fancy name, like The Patriot Act.

Yes. Trump made a huge mistake with that declaration. The constitutional principles of our country are on fire. No property rights, arrest with no legal recourse to challenge a positive test, elimination of right to assembly, etc.

We lost everything this nation was founded upon in one week.

Your concerns are warranted, but I would point out that preventing the spread of infectious disease would almost certainly be considered a legitimate government function in any human society.

Having said that, I’d also suggest that stopping people from conducting private business transactions where they themselves are the only ones at risk is not an acceptable measure by any stretch.

If I were the guard I’d be cranking this at full volume from my Humvee 24/7:

Yes, because they get to define an emergency- we don’t. Could be anything. I can’t believe how easy people are giving it all up.

What will you do when they start going house to house for guns as part of the upcoming forced quarantines?

I swear I can’t believe what has happened to FR!

And yet...

“A strict observance of the written law is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to the written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the ends to the means.” - Thomas Jefferson

“The Constitution is not a suicide pact.” - SCOTUS Justice Robert H. Jackson in Terminiello v. Chicago

Makes more sense to quarantine 1 guy for a few weeks than to close entire businesses for months to keep any employee from getting an illness that is largely non-lethal.

See mine.

Accelerated herd immunity by exposure, with mitigation protocols for those over 70 or with severe underlying issues.

Too tough for today’s soft world, but it would be the fastest way out.

People who don’t want to grow up tend to have a problem with violating the rights of others. That’s very common among criminals with drug habits. He should have grown up a little and stayed put.
