Moderate Joe Moves Left: He’s courting Warren on bankruptcy, Bernie on free college and the NEA.

...

Only hours before Sunday’s debate, Mr. Biden’s campaign announced that he is “adopting Senator Sanders’ proposal”—from a bill Mr. Sanders sponsored in 2017—to fund tuition-free college for families who earn under $125,000 a year. This probably would cost hundreds of billions of dollars over a decade. It could devastate private colleges and liberal arts schools. It would banish economic incentives, forcing universities to compete, more than they already do, over whose climbing wall is the gnarliest.

Lest Elizabeth Warren feel left out, Mr. Biden is adopting her plan “to fundamentally reshape our bankruptcy system.” To pick two of her ideas: Student loans, Ms. Warren’s write-up says, would be made “dischargeable just like other consumer debts.” Homeowners in foreclosure could file for “automatic modification of the mortgage debt to the market value of the property.” This debtor’s dream would raise the price of credit for everybody.

During Sunday’s debate, Mr. Biden said there would be “no more, no new fracking.” On immigration, he said that during his Administration “the only deportations that will take place are commissions of felonies in the United States of America.”

On Saturday the National Education Association endorsed Mr. Biden, which bodes ill for school choice. “No privately funded charter school—or private charter school—would receive a penny of federal money,” he told the NEA. “None.” In 2008 the NEA waited to endorse Barack Obama until Hillary Clinton had dropped out. The teachers union has fewer qualms about Mr. Biden, whose wife is an NEA member.

Mr. Biden says voters don’t want Mr. Sanders’s societal transformation. But what, then, is a federal plan to provide free college nationwide, regardless of the student’s major or the job market’s demands, while convulsing hundreds of private schools and their employees, all paid for by . . .

Given the current situation with the country, it’s a winning strategy. The left just needs to make sure to keep the country in the tank for as long as possible. Given how easy it has been to herd the people, I’d say they could very well pull it off.

Why would it cost hundreds of billions of dollars if it’s free?

Joe Biden never was a moderate. That is a media myth. Didn’t he have the second-most-liberal voting record in the Senate, next to Obama’s?

The question I’m interested in isn’t whether he’s trying to unify Bernie and Lizzy voters behind him on issues, but whether he’s thinking of LIzzy as VP.

Even FNC is pushing the Centrist Moderate BS. It has worked, most people believe Joe is the voice of moderation who prevailed over that left wing radical Sanders. We all knew they were going to pull that scam but the GOP was not smart enough to get ahead of it.

Did the WSJ forget that Joe is a long time pinko who plagiarized notorious British commie Neil Kinnock many, many years ago in his stump speeches?

Yes. We have to stop the media myths. They are chopping up speeches on the virus by President Trump, re-arranging quotes, making up stories to cause stocks to descend in value, and now making Biden look like Abe Lincoln.

But ask Biden for his plans (not to read notes from speech writers) and he'll probably promise "I tell you tonight I will bring our troops home from Viet Nam before next Christmas."

Bernie already won 2020. Look at the White House today and the actions of .gov. .Gov will bailout everything going forwards. More debt, more government. It doesn’t matter who’s in charge.

According to VoteView, Boxer, Kennedy, Corzine and Sanders had the most liberal voting records during the years when Obama and Biden were in the Senate. Biden was in the middle of the Democratic pack. Obama was a little more liberal.

I thought I had read somewhere that Obama had the most liberal voting record and Biden was second, but maybe that source was incorrect. Different groups take different votes to evaluate politicians by so it could be that different organizations rate Biden further to the left and others more to the center of the Democratic pack...which of course is almost completely left of center.

Senators who are running for president miss a lot of votes and only show up when the party really needs them, so there was talk when Obama (and before him Kerry) were running for president that they were the most leftward senators, but that didn't reflect their voting record as a whole. Much depended on which votes you counted.

This year, according to VoteView the Senators farthest left in their view really were Warren, Harris, Booker, and Sanders. VoteView likely has biases of its own, but you can compare their rankings with those of other sites.

True. If you count some votes in the current Congress the "squad" is the farthest left. Count other votes and it's other representatives like Maxine Waters.

With the "squad" and with Biden, the financial sector is very strong in their constituencies, so while the squad votes left on non-economic issues, when it comes to companies in their district they try to oblige the companies. If you don't have much of anything going on economically in your district it's easier to vote left when it comes to financial regulations.

Biden wanted to satisfy the corporations registered in Delaware. He also wasn't a real PC warrior back then, so it's unlikely that he was one of the most liberal Senators. With Bernie in the Senate, it wasn't likely that Biden - or even Obama - would be the most liberal.
