'I know, but what do you want me to do?': Fauci's strikingly honest review of Trump's coronavirus response
thehour.com ^ | 3/23/20 | Aaron Blake

Dr. Anthony Fauci's interview with Science magazine began on an inauspicious note. Asked how he's doing right now, Fauci said he was "exhausted" but "good." "I mean, I'm not, to my knowledge, coronavirus-infected," he said, before adding with a laugh: "To my knowledge, I haven't been fired."

What followed were several exchanges that should help people take stock of President Donald Trump's response to the coronavirus. Repeatedly, Fauci tacitly and even openly admitted that comments made by the commander in chief are not true and are not in line with what the nation's leading infectious disease expert is advising.

The interviewer, Jon Cohen, asked whether Fauci would acknowledge that Trump says things he disagrees with, and Fauci seemed to grant the premise. Fauci maintained that, "I don't disagree on the substance" - but then added: "It is expressed in a way that I would not express it, because it could lead to some misunderstanding about what the facts are about a given subject."

The exchange highlights the mixed messages the country has been getting in recent days, in particular, about the promise of certain drugs to treat coronavirus. While Fauci has warned that evidence of the drugs' effectiveness is "anecdotal" and that there is no "magic drug" to treat coronavirus, Trump said Friday that he "disagreed" with Fauci, at least in part, and has repeatedly hailed a malaria drug in particular as a possible "game-changer."

Asked about the White House holding crowded events like a Rose Garden news conference in which Trump was shaking hands with people, Fauci admitted he has repeatedly advised against it. "I keep saying, is there any way we can get a virtual news conference. Thus far, no," Fauci said. "I'm trying my best. I cannot do the impossible."

Dr. Fauci was very wrong just 7-weeks ago, when the Trump State Department issued it’s first warnings on travel to/from China due to Covid-19:

January 26, 2020

(Dr. Anthony Fauci) Government health agency official: Coronavirus ‘isn’t something the American public need to worry about.

______________

Heavy-duty!

Thanks for that.

Re: “Fauci speaks to facts - Trump speaks to hope.”

Sorry, that's not serious.

The USA “Case Fatality Rate” is 1.2%.

That is comparable to Germany, Switzerland, Austria, all the Scandinavian countries, and Canada.

After two months, COVID-19 has killed 593 people in the USA.

Seasonal influenza - from October 2019 to March 2020 - has killed at least 23,000 people in the USA.

In the USA, it is likely that COVID-19 will be less deadly than seasonal influenza.

[No. Ffauci and other scientists are too trained in black and white]

I’d disagree. Fauci did not get where he is by being a scientist. He’s a politician, a butt-kisser through and through. And he knows exactly what he’s doing here. He’s undermining Trump in a passive aggressive, plausibly deniable way. Trump shouldn’t fire Fauci - he should sideline the guy. Give him an office with a great view and let him shuffle paper instead of putting him in front of the media.

Fauci's not a team player, that is glaringly evident. He's outed himself with these tell-all interviews when he should have his nose to the grindstone and be quiet about it. Another swamp creature discovered on the Trump team is what this amounts to.

I agree....absolutely....we do it in our business, too.

We're even doing it now to solve the grandchildren's problems of having their colleges closed. Have one at UB in Buffalo and one at Brown in Rhode Island.

Many of our scientists suffer from what I call Jor-El syndrome. You could have saved yourselves if only you had listened to ME!

The leaders of this country really need to challenge us to behave like adults instead of failing to give us the unvarnished truth. They just encourage infantile behavior.

"Fauci is a tried and true member of the old, long-established, corrupt medical big pharma bureaucracy that crushes every hopeful breakthrough by smaller lab researchers with endless years of high cost regulations that only the large pharmaceuticals can afford, after 20 years jumping through regulatory hoops to get it to market. I remember in the early 1960’s the American Cancer Society had a fundraising ad that showed a clock at 5 minutes to midnight with the title “We’re this close to a cure!” That was over a half century ago!"

"Be it cancer or the Chi-Com Virus, Trump has given terminal patients the right to try experimental treatments that have been long denied those who have up to now been given no hope. And without hope we have nothing. In this crises, Trump is bringing hope to America. And the constantly pessimistic swap rat Fauci hates that."

Remember. Take names. When this is over wave the bloody shirt and demand that the leaders who allowed this to happen never get near the levers of power again.
