It is hard to imagine that an outbreak like the one in Northern Italy or in NYC could be covered up, even by the CCP.
Why haven’t we heard about any major outbreaks in China other than the one in Wuhan?
There was a major one in Hong Kong and that did get decent coverage. We’re only hearing peripherally about some (not even most) of the other ones in China. There have been some of these reports posted here on FR.
The Chinese also implemented their version of hard quarantine in other parts of their country and easily traced most of the people that left Wuhan that stayed in China. Anything other than that is “report this and we shoot you” so there will be little to no coverage.
Keep in mind that the Great Firewall is a thing and the Chinese government shut down most of the VPN holes in it during the start of the Wuhan crisis. So, yes, they can stifle news to that level.
Also, remember that the Chinese will stop the spread of viruses by shooting all the people that were in contact with carriers. If there’s no crisis in local medical centers, there’s nothing to report.
