Let's Talk Recoveries
worldometers ^ | 4/19/20 | Freeze

Something stinks in the State reporting. We are 4 to weeks into this virus. And the recovery data is not being reported accurately. Or should I say certain places data on recoveries are about as believable as the China Numbers.

From Worldometer Data on 4/18

State - percent of cases recovered

South Carolina - 64.5% Oklahoma - 59% Montana - 49% Minnesota - 49% (kind of an outlier) Wyoming - 49% Tennessee - 48% Alaska - 47% Maine - 45% Arkansas - 47% Iowa - 40% New Hampshire - 38% South Dakota - 36% North Dakota - 32% Nevada - 31% Idaho - 27% West Virginia - 26% New Mexico - 26% Texas - 25%

What do all these States have in common??

Bottom of the list

State - percent of cases recovered

Michigan - 10% New York - 9% Maryland - 7% Colorado - 5% California - 4% Missouri - 3% Florida - 3% Wisconsin - 2% Pennsylvania - 2% Nebraska - 1% New Jersey - 1% Arizona - 1% Ohio - 1% Alabama - 0.4% Connecticut - 0.4% Rhode Island - 0.2% Louisiana - 0.2% Illinois - 0.2% Georgia - 0.2% Indiana - 0.1% Mississippi, Oregon, Vermont - 0% (not one recovery reported)

So Statistically speaking don't get the covid-19 in a blue state (or Mississippi) because you will never recover.

Maybe people in democrat states are brain dead so there is no way to identify recoveries.

I have a similar observation in my home state, North Carolina.

A local web site posts the days current numbers every day in huge headlines as today:

Number of coronavirus cases in North Carolina passes 6,580; 185 deaths

You have to click on the link to see that there are only 388 hospitalized.

None listed as recovered.

But then what do you expect of a liberal news media?

Scare headlines.

That’s interesting. This thing has shown a long length to recovery in practically all worldometers numbers.

But how good is the reporting?

They still show 46 active cases for the Diamond Princes cruise ship. My guess is nobody is updating those.

I think severe/critical is another area that appears to lack sufficient reporting, with some places reporting low severe cases relative to the deaths that are popping up. It’s not very believable.

I have a simple question

OK so you get this virus , and it builds up enough in a population that you get the attention of the authorities is. you go to the hospital right? You’re officially counted on their radar as being a human being that has had this Virus

At this point there’s only two possibilities right ?

first you die

second you don’t.

So by definition then aren’t all of the people that have gotten this far- ok its gotten bad enough they went to the hospital- and they didn’t die

that’s a recovery right ? what else is it?

So if they say there’s a .4% death rate that’s a 99.6% recovery rate correct?

Our state, NC flat out says it does not track recovered patients.

They do track those tested. those that test positive, those hospitalized and those that die pretty accurate.

Not as clear cut as you’re making it. You’ve got 13 states there that voted for Trump and 10 that didn’t.

Let’s do some more math:
Population of USA: about 330000000
Number of confirmed cases: 472000
Number of Deaths: 40600

Interpretation: 0.22% of US population are confirmed positive.
0.01% of US population have died of this virus.

Note: 2017 Flu cases: 0.02% of US population deaths

10 might have voted for trump, but at least 4 have democratic governors - 3 of which have been quite tyrannical in there approach.

Michigan, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Wisconsin, might be others

Look at the New England states the 2 most conservative are New Hampshire and Maine. It is inconceivable that Maine is 46% and New Hampshire %38 (still didn’t vote for trump) but Connecticut and Rhode Island are both less than 0.5% and Vermont does not have one single person recovered

My point is certain states are reporting accurately. Certain states are dragging their feet to report POSITIVE news. Their motives for doing so can be argued over I suppose.

Georgia isn’t providing “recovered” data, and it’s really frustrating. Their DOH site provides counts for positive, hospitalized and deaths, and demographics for each individual death (age, gender & underlying conditions, if known). But no “recovered” info. Oddly, if I go to a national Coronavirus tracking site (CoronavirusNearMe), I can find a “recovered” count for Georgia - but it’s WAY too low to be legit.

I guess so. Whenever I go out and I see so many people nearly frightened to death I have bad thoughts about media people and Democrats. This is not good...

Maybe I’m missing something, but where are you seeing any “recovered” data at that link, or is this something that you are calculating?

Well not really. Cute, but factually challenged at best. AZ has stopped publishing recovered data. So we don’t know. You pretty much have to work out your own math with what the numbers were 2 weeks ago, subtract the dead, and there you you.

Around 80% of cases are mild and do not involve a hospital.

Most cases do not have a documented outcome because they are mild and don’t involve a hospital.

Of those that do, here are the Worldometer numbers for the USA:

Closed Cases
110,345

Cases which had an outcome:

69,929 (63%)
Recovered / Discharged

40,416 (37%)
Deaths
