Apple and Google have embarked on their biggest collaboration ever over the past month, building a platform that will turn nearly every smartphone on the planet into a tool for tracking COVID-19.
Now, the two companies are providing a first look at how the new technology will work on iPhones and Androids.
New screenshots published Monday show how the contact tracing software will use Bluetooth to detect other smartphones in close proximity and alert people if they come into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
Apple and Google will push the new software to people's smartphones automatically later this month, and it's meant to be incorporated into COVID-19 apps developed by government health agencies across the globe.

This is good news for companies like Garmin who make stand alone GPS devices. Their business was devastated by people being able to carry GPS as part of their phones. I’m ready to get a Garmin for my car again and disable GPS on my phone.
“HIPPA violation.”
Please cite the violation.
So will faraday cases work to prevent this from being loaded onto our phone? But you can’t keep your phone in a faraday 24/7.
Change the word Covid with AIDS, and watch the heads explode.
Have you ever read the HIPPA brochure at your doctor’s office? There’s no such thing as privacy. The only ones the doctor can’t talk to about your personal medical history is your cousin Fred and the Uber driver that brought you over to the office. It’s an open book for everyone else...especially the gubment.
and how pray tell do they get the info. They going to do that with HIV too. Highly doubtful.
So if everyone says they are positive for CV19 day 1, the thing is useless.
Yeaaah, nope!

That is only for people with aids and Ebola
Freepers will tell you you should just build your own phone.
“Take a first look at Apple and Google’s ambitious new COVID-19 contact tracing technology that will send you a notification if you were near someone who has the coronavirus”
And no one thinks this is freaking scary?
So how does a private company get private health information about who has tested positive? HIPAA?
I guess it has to be private unless Google and Apple want it.
Big Tech is Big Brother.
Next up, warning you when you’re too close to politically incorrect speakers in the name of mental health.
It matters not if we are on the downside of CV19, This is the foot in the door they planned this for all pandemics. Including flu. Seasonally.
Bill Gates has been priming the pump for five years he doesnt care what the whatsit is. Its all just an excuse for power
Think that will work for this app? It will probably turn on Bluetooth for its own use.
Freedom of association is gone because they can also determine if youve been in the company of someone or if you ever attended a protest or meeting with certain people, including plants who have their app on.
Since employers claim they can look at your Facebook record in your tweets even if your account is private, I would assume employers would also say they can see your contact data to see if you have been in the presence of someone and be declined admission to the office for 2 to 6 weeks.
A month ago, they did a study where they guessed that 25% of New Yorkers got infected.
Good idea. Imagine the commotion in a crowded store or restaurant if everyone's phone went off with a warning "you are near a COVID-19 infected person".
