They are not self-destructive, and they know exactly what they are doing. They have an arrogance and appetite for power over their fellow man that cannot be satisfied by the trappings of a mere business executive. Only a place in the ruling elite of a totalitarian regime, like the old Soviet nomenklatura, will do.
