Trump calls Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser ‘incompetent’ in Black Lives Matter feud

In a series of tweets, Trump ripped Bowser after the Democratic mayor painted “Black Lives Matter” in huge letters on the street leading to the White House earlier Friday and demanded the president withdraw the thousands of National Guard troops deployed to the nation’s capital.

“The incompetent Mayor of Washington, D.C., @MayorBowser, who’s budget is totally out of control and is constantly coming back to us for ‘handouts’, is now fighting with the National Guard, who saved her from great embarrassment over the last number of nights,” Trump tweeted.

“If she doesn’t treat these men and women well, then we’ll bring in a different group of men and women!” he continued.

In a huge political statement Friday morning, Bowser designated the square in front of Lafayette Park as Black Lives Matter Plaza and ordered city staffers and local artists to paint “Black Lives Matter” in enormous yellow letters on the street that leads to the White House.

“There was a dispute this week about whose street this is,” John Falcicchio, Bowser’s chief of staff, wrote in a tweet.

“Mayor Bowser wanted to make it abundantly clear that this is DC’s street and to honor demonstrators who [were] peacefully protesting on Monday evening,” he continued, referring to the protesters who were forcefully cleared by the National Guard from Lafayette Park.

But the move did not win Bowser the support of Washington’s Black Lives Matter chapter, which described it as a “performative distraction from real policy changes.”

a relatively small number of civilian criminals?

Relative to the population of Washington D.C., yes. I'm not suggesting that they roll over and do nothing about the looting and riots. But bringing in the regular military (not the National Guard) to deal with rioting civilians would be an unprecedented step of dubious constitutionality. These guys are trained to shoot first, ask questions later. Bring them in and the bodies are really going to start piling up, not just the rioters but also people who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The same training that is an asset on foreign battlefields is a liability when dealing with US civilians. In President Trump's words, "The cure cannot be worse than the disease."

“There was a dispute this week about whose street this is,” John Falcicchio, Bowser’s chief of staff, wrote in a tweet. “Mayor Bowser wanted to make it abundantly clear that this is DC’s street...

According to Article I Section 8 of the Constitution, it's Congress' "street."

Congress delegated executive authority to the mayor, but it still retains oversight accountability over the laws passed and budget decisions made by the DC Council.

If a miracle happens and we get LBJ like GOP majorities in Congress. The Nixon mistake of “home rule” for DC should be ended. It should go back to be governed by a Congressional committee. There are sound Constitutional ( and Founding Father) reasons for this. Such a committee certainly couldn’t do worse & certainly couldn’t be more corrupt.

I know it won’t happen! But it should!

I think one of the greatest services President Trump provides is showing which politicians in both parties aren’t cutting it in service to Americans.

There are supposed to be one million “protesters” in DC this weekend, hard to imagine all of them have pure intentions.

Why isn’t that defacing public property? I don’t care if she’s the Mayor of DC or an alien from outer space. She has no right to order ANYONE to deface public property. She doesn’t own the streets. The American citizens own the ground she walks on. She needs to be charged with that and made to clean it up. Is it impossible for black female politicians to behave like normal people? Guess so!
