The PC thought police have been gunning for Christopher Columbus for years.
In the wake of the great civil – and, at times, violent - unrest we’ve seen in our country lately, it’s unsurprising that Columbus would once again resume his role as a proxy for every leftist grievance. All around the country, statues of Columbus have been destroyed and defaced all in the name of “progress.” Our statue in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania was among these incidents, left unceremoniously graffitied this week by vandals.
Beyond these protests, Columbus is a symbol of Italian pride and also the American spirit of exploration that has driven our country for almost 250 years.
And while this may come to a surprise to coastal elites, he means a great deal to the people where I live. From the Knights of Columbus to the many monuments we have here, he represents more than the caricature that the left presents today.
As an American of Italian descent whose middle name is Rocco, I grew up hearing about the anti-Italian discrimination and hate that was present when my grandfather came to Hazleton, Pennsylvania in 1913. He often told the story about how his first grade teacher couldn't pronounce our family name (Buchicchio), so she shortened it to what it is today: Bognet. In my house, like others I know, celebrating Columbus meant honoring the Italian heritage of my family.
Columbus is a cultural touchstone to the many Italian-Americans who live in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania. This is a place that twice voted for President Obama, but supported President Trump in a big way in 2016. It was the votes of the people here who precipitated the fall of the Democrats’ “blue wall” on Election Night.
There are many theories about why President Trump was able to pull off his historic win in places that had not elected a Republican president in decades, but this current debate calls to mind one important reason: culture. President Obama tellingly revealed how the left really thinks about voters here in 2012 when he flippantly said Pennsylvanians – the majority of whom supported him in two presidential elections! – were “bitter” and clung to their guns and religion.
What the left, and particularly the progressive elites who run the Democratic Party, heading into the 2020 elections fail to understand is that it is precisely their attacks on and slow degradation of these values and traditions over the years that has left the people craving radical change from Washington-as-usual. Years ago, when Democrats like Bill Clinton negotiated away our jobs to foreign countries and boarded up our factories, for example, what did many people have left except for their culture?
There are real ways to address systemic inequalities in our system through economic and educational opportunities, but Democrats are repeating their past mistakes in stoking the flames of these wars on our culture. Not one person has ever been lifted out of poverty or been given a real chance at success in life by tearing down a statue. Unlike previous years, however, these traditions aren’t simply being taken away by slick politicians and legislation, but rather by violence and lawlessness aided and abetted by the supposedly “enlightened” left and their media accomplices. How can Joe Biden claim to be “Scranton Joe” when he caters to the woke fringes of his party in tearing down Northeastern Pennsylvania’s culture? This wholesale stampede to appease the progressive statue mob will only further alienate the voters they pushed away four years ago.
The left is now openly, violently pushing it’s agenda because they have 2 generations of indoctrinated morons in the American public.
Columbus brought Christ to the new world when he was accompanied by a Catholic priest. Eventually Christianity wiped out the human sacrifice of the native tribes in north and south America. The Democrat pro-abortion crowd re-instated the Satanic ritual of abortion. There are many reasons why the Godless left wants to purge Columbus but will the silent majority sit idly by and watch it happen?
Let us keep reminding people that the DemocRATs went to war to preserve Slavery. The DemocRATs founded the KKK. The DemocRATs wrote and enforced the Jim Crow Laws and policies. The DemocRATs fully support and fund the wholesale slaughter of Black Babies through Planned Parenthood whick is primarily located in Black neighborhoods. It is the DemocRATs who resist any effort to put quality education into Black neighborhoods by blocking Charter and Private Schools.
And now they try to change history, but history is what it is.
That’s why they hate us Old Guys. We KNOW their history and what they truly are.
Those of us who lived through the late 1960s and early 1970s on college campuses remember the crazy leftists—and the Democratic Party that got on their knees for them.
This is the same old garbage...repackaged and rebranded...but stinky garbage nonetheless.
I’m sorry but I think this time is different. Even the various factions within the leftist spectrum can’t get on the same page. There will be liberal factions fighting in CHOP before this is over. Which is fine by me. Let them take each other out.
The future of the Democrat Party is not and never will be in doubt. As long as evil exists, there will be a Democrat Party.
What would Trump do? Put them back up 30 feet taller
they already are. One POC got a little resentful of the gals running the nocop co-op, and raided the store. Then put out a tweet that any food donations shouldn’t be made to the (white run) nocop co-op. When nocop tweeted she was looted, she was cancelled for calling a POC a looter. Another rumor that Raz is out because he was using riot footage for his album promo Jun 6, (does he even realize he’s going to jail?) and a cranky woman has taken over. Another that only POC can crayon on the new plywood barriers. Another that if a POC starts to speak, every white person has to shut up immediately. Yesterday a suggestion made by a speaker that white folk should be assigned work crews to clean up after the POC. White folk can’t chant ‘hands up’, ‘i can’t breathe’ or black power fist. With teargas outlawed, they have to be in the back of marches unless a POC needs freeing from a cop and then they need to do that. More and more rhetoric that POCs are helpless and whites need to protect them but at the same time kill whitey and smash their stuff, tear down America. These guys can’t even finish a dodgeball game without bringing race into it. And this weekend they want only blacks in the camp - for Juneteenth. In two weeks they’ve gone from nobody’s in charge of the militant flower children playing Dungeons and Dragons to Mao’s Great Leap Backward. And the place seemed awful deserted last night.
The good news is, there sure have been a lot of closet crazies drawn out. Which the cops could deal with swiftly if they had city management behind them.
It’s great that the Democrats are finally telling the public what their plan is and what they are for:
1. Anarchy, violence in the streets, personal property destruction
2. Reducing Police and law enforcement and shifting funds to Dem and BLM fascist causes.
3. controlling every aspect of your life
4. Open borders, free stuff for all illegals that taxpayers must finance.
Spot on. Trump should add a fact-based history lesson to his rallies.
