Thousands sign petition to help save Pawtucket teacher’s job after arrest.

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE): A parent started a petition, which thousands have signed, to help save a Pawtucket teacher’s job after he was arrested over the weekend. However, not everyone is agrees with the cause.

Derrick Garforth, 34, was charged over the weekend following vandalism at the Christopher Columbus statue on Elmwood Avenue. According to Police, Garforth with the help of 2 others, splattered paint towards the statue, which had already been boarded and fenced off out of precaution. Garforth was charged with desecration of grave/monument, which is a felony.

Garforth teaches social studies at Joseph Jenks Junior High School. He’s since been put on leave while the school department investigates, which is why Ted Panagiotis started the petition.

“Someone had shared the story from ABC6 and I was like, ‘I think that’s the teacher Amir said is his favorite,'” Panagiotis said.

His son, Amir Panagiotis, is one of Garforth’s students, and Amir says Garforth is much more than a teacher to him.

“It doesn’t matter if the statue is right or wrong, it’s a felony crime and someone in his position, especially in middle school shaping those young minds, it just doesn’t set a good example,” said Jacob Lenahan, a custodian with the Pawtucket School Department.

I have to agree with the custodian...

The teacher should be teaching students that, if they want a statue removed, they should be writing to the elected officials...Not engage in vandalism...

I guess this father has no problem with his son's teacher engaging in vandalism...

Well then, I suppose the signers won’t mind having their homes vandalized — not saying that should happen of course...

Teachers are the Marxist, anti-white, black extremists and hatemongers. Their students are their targets as Lenin wrote in “On Education”.

The parents are dumb as dogshit. Apparently they either weren’t paying attention to the Bill of Rights in History/Pol. Sci classes, didn’t care to learn about them, just plain stupid, or Marxists of all stripes.

Rhode Island. Nice place to visit, if you can afford the better beaches. Universities are Marxist shitholes of anti-American propaganda with hardcore leftists as teachers. And it is only going to get worse.

Now, if a conservative teacher painted/vandalized some statue of a communist, black extremist, etc., would these same people support their right to do it?

NOT A CHANCE IN HELL!

There is a real difference between sane, patriotic, educated Americans and the rest of the Marxist/black fascists/anarchist rabble. The problem is, the “rabble” is winning due to the stupidity of the liberals, black “Nkrumah wannabes”, the mentally ill Antifa types, and supporting parents.

Our society has lost its way. How can so many people consider such behavior a good role model for children?

Save him?! No, fired and good riddance. After well-deserved and long jail sentence, let him find a new future job pumping gas or mowing lawns.

One of my friends is a fifth grade teacher, and a right-Libertarian. She says she can’t say a word to her coworkers about politics because she’s afraid she’ll lose her job, and that’s in a densely Christian area. She just has to smile and nod.

The parents are dumb, but that’s because our teachers were awful.

I graduated high school in 2005, and all throughout my childhood, we weren’t taught why events happened, just that they did and to memorize the dates and people involved. That was it. We didn’t touch on World History, not in detail, and that’s the problem. Dates mean nothing without context.

My high school history teacher was the same for the last three years, and she was a hard-left femdom type of woman. She showed Michael Moore movies like they were real documentaries, and she didn’t like me much, because I called her out on it.

Factoids without substance. That’s what we were taught.

Teaching has been politicized to the point of where the product being produced is of questionable value. Best to automate the learning process thru on line courses approved directly by the parents and eliminate the use of teachers or at least reduce their numbers significantly

This is the way economics works when persons of any profession thinks they are invulnerable to change.

Vandalism is violence. Violence against property.

If one believes that violence is wrong, then one must agree that vandalism is always wrong.

Vandalism often leads to violence against people when the owner of the vandalized property objects to the vandalism in progress and is attacked by the vandalizer.

Also remember that violence in pursuit of a political goal is terrorism. At least in my mind this teacher could be charged with a terrorist act.

“There once was a teacher from Pawtucket...”

If I was clever I would work in some rhyme on how knowing he could get off of the felony for statue abuse, he then figured he could get off of a felony for child abuse.

Somewhere would be the words “suck it”.

By the way - promote Jacob Lenahan, a wise custodian, to teacher.

Sounds like the custodian should be promoted to teacher.

Trump is President, and he controls the Department of Education. Why doesn't he do something about that's happening in our schools? Simply cut off federal funding to schools if they continue with this Marxist crap.

If the situation was reversed, the Democrats would have done this more than 3 years ago. So much time has been wasted...

I sort of agree with what you are saying.

Keep our education system, but get rid of the (huge amount of) leftist influence.

Big, big issue which a LOT of Americans agree with, completely.

Completely.

Because the GOP worked against him or stayed silent to the coup attempt. Hello...do you not remember who was house speaker POTUS first two years?
Every step of the way GOP has been either limp or working against POTUS. Even with Kavanaugh,we had the majority and still had to give a big show and arm twisting to get him through.
The Marxists know how to stick together. Then again they’re brainwashed cult who desire power more than anything else in life.
