nope

it was never intended to be a state

that’s the point of the fedgov area not being a state

THIS!

If the house wants to cede all but 1 square mile, I’m all for it, but the remaining area is just Maryland.

Next, NYC becomes a state, then LA, then Philly, then Houston and Chicago and Minneapolis.

Each one sends a two senators and five or ten congressmen to Washington, Federal District Of.

I wonder which party they'd belong to.

The left is going to push everything in their agenda, day by day, and overwhelm the system. Honestly, if there aren’t going to be bodies in the streets now, might as well surrender.

The Founders knew what they were doing when they established the nation’s capitol in a Federal District. Not in one state.

If anyone is aggrieved about taxation without representation they can move to MD. Esp if they are Republican. Totally unrepresented, taxed out the yazoo.

Shrink DC to just a few blocks, give the rest back to Maryland and Virginia. Oh, and give independence to Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands at the same time.

Yet another reminder of what happens when actual HISTORY as well as Civics is NOT taught in school.

There is a legitimate REASON why the District of Columbia is NOT a state - the US Capitol doesn’t belong in or to any one state. It exists as a separate entity to prevent undo leverage.

the Republican-controlled Senate has no plans to take it up.

Intelligence from the Senate? Unusual!

Unconstitutional. And self-styled “Delegate” Eleanor Holmes-Norton has no power; she is just a short black woman with a big mouth.

Only reason for giving statehood to Washington DC, is for democrats to have a permanent hold on the senate. Otherwise, not wise at all.

And, it would give a handful of people power beyond what the founding fathers intended.
